Summerberry fly shown in the current issue of Northwest Flyfishing calls for blue Peacock neck feathers. Does this mean Peacock neck feathers dyed blue, natural color blue? Or is there such a thing as a Blue Peacock? And where can I get some of these feathers? All I've ever seen are green, either tails or sword.

I just googled the Summerberry , nice looking fly !!

Those feathers are definetly from the neck of a male Black Shouldered Peacock .... I'm staring at my complete pelt right now . The feather is "electric blue" with hues of gold and green .... beautiful feathers . John at feathersmc has them readily available .... about $5 for 10 feathers .

If you would like to see what they are like to tie with , PM me your address and I'll send you a dozen .

JD,

They are natual blue neck feathers from a peacock. In addition to the 2 excellent sources already mentioned, Dave at Waters West in Port Angeles, WA has them and I think Ron at All About The Fly has them. Irish Angler also has them. Plus, you can often find them in craft shops or via internet sources that sell craft feather supplies.

Thanks guys. I checked out feathersmc and found pictures of these feathers. A couple days later I got to digging around and found some feathers I had forgotten I had. Now all I have to do is figure out how to mount them. I've tried flattening the stems, but I'm still not getting the results I think I should be getting. Are these feathers supposed to somehow be rolled over, kind of tent style? Or simply laid flat and allowed to flair out in their natural shape? Or what? From the pictures I'm looking at, it doesn't look like he is cutting and mounting slips like you would if you were using turkey or goose feathers. But maybe he is and it just doesn't show it very well.
