My friend wants to float the Yakima next Wednesday.

I just purchased a Buck Bag 9ft Bronco Extreme (thanks to this message board I spent $500 more than I had intended to!). He has a three man raft he will be using.

Any way what would one suggest for a first float?

Where to put in and take out?
What time of day, to hit some possible hatches?
What patterns to take along?

Any advice would be appreciated, especially since I am basically a still water fisher. I have done some summer float with hoppers but nothing this time of year.

Thanks!

Keep an eye on the flows, contact Jack Mitchell at The Evening Hatch ( a sponsor of this site) or Steve Joyce at Red's Fly Shop ( http://www.redsflyshop.com/ ).

Good luck!

Anything down in the canyon should be pretty non-technical and easy to handle. Always be aware and scout if you are unsure. There's been a pretty good Caddis hatch which we saw last weekend as we put in around 10a.m. March Browns came off at about 1 for a pretty short duration. Recommendation for wherever you float, keep moving until you see rising fish if your set on fishing dries. The water above Ringer is a bit more technical but shouldn't be too bad. I'd not recommend that you go above Rinehart around Ellensburg as there are a few hairy streches.

Good luck and have a great time.
