I would like to thank this forum for all the information on Winston rods old to new. Recently purchased a B2X 9ft 4wt, paired it with the new Colorado LT reel in a 4-5. Love the performance of the b2x. Pinpoint casts to where I wanted.
Again, thanks to the forum!

That was my first Winston rod, still have it, and still fish it.

It was soon followed by a IIx 8 wt, then a IIx 6 wt.

I have a Sage LL, Orvis and others, but nothing compares to those iix rods (for my type of fishing).

Can't believe how light they are, and the backbone to take on large fish. :)

I sure like the Winston Brand rods just wish they would ease up on their tight warranty policy can afford to buy used. I bought a used rod with a broken tip thinking could get repaired for $75 no they wanted $220 plus the $180 I paid and freight told them to keep it more than original cost.

Sucks, I had the same thing with Scott. Best deal to do is offload a rod like that on eBay. I'll buy broken rods from time to time just to have an extra backup section. It has to be a fire sale for me to buy a used rod now.

Cheers

I also have a broken section on a 3 pc. Winston which I bought used years ago from a pawn shop. I somehow managed to splinter the end of the middle section last year and when I called Winston they said the repair fee was $150.

Yep, my $150 Scott A4 needs $150 to repair a busted female ferrule (replace a section). It's one of my favorite rods, but it is hard to bring myself to fork money into a well used rod with no warranty.
Kyle,
Would love a review of your new Hardy Jet,
picking mine up this week.

I use to love Winston rods, especially the WT. I do not think finer rods have ever been made than the 7'6" 2wt WT, the 8' 3wt WT, the 8'6" 3wt WT, the 8' 4wt TMF, the 9' 4wt WT and the 8'6" 5wt WT. If pushed, I'd say the 8'6" 3wt is the best of all (certainly the "sweetest"), but I would probably covet the 8' 3wt 3-piece more as I find it a more useful rod.

I also liked the BIIt line of rods quite a bit. Really versatile dry-fly rods that allowed me to make a lot of very hard casts that I wasn't able to make with other rods. Standouts were the 7'6" 3wt, 8' 4wt, 8'6" 4wt (aptly nicknamed "The Staff of Moses") and 8'6" 5wt. The top two are the 8' 4wt, which is one of the best small-stream rods ever made, IMHO and the 8'6" 4wt which is the best-casting graphite dry-fly rod I've ever used.

I also really, really liked the 9' 6wt BIIx for tossing big bugs and hopper/dropper rigs.

Sadly, they have gone away from what I liked most about their rods and I have recently found that with their move toward faster actions that Sage beats them in that category and I have moved in that direction. However, if Winston ever comes back with the WT and/or BIIt, I am back in!

Totally agree here. My first was a used custom by Flycatcher (Mill Creek, WA) a 7wt BIIx built as freshwater rod, single foot Recoil guides, etc.. 3 ounce flat. Trimmed 7wt lines lightly to fit Danielsson LW 4/7 - Rod was intended for large dries and worked our VERY well. Searching with Bombers is a pretty intense tact.. dream rod for dry line work.
