In the last few months the US has been experiencing numerous calamities directly related to politics. In this forum we hotly debate fish and do the proverbial hand wringing when we really need to fix the real problem.

It's not protecting jobs. It's not persuading an egotist to change his mind. It's not picking one party over another, although the fault lies dominantly in one party. It's certainly not giving super rich money and more tax breaks.

The fix is correcting an entire attitude of selfish greed. We love to trumpet our righteous horns at the world, when it's us who are wrong. The following affects everyone, except those who think they are helping God toward the end of the world.

Populist radical right a threat to core values of medicine and public health

Date: June 1, 2017 Source: SAGE https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/06/170601213238.htm

The populist radical right is a threat to core values of medicine and public health, even within a functioning democratic system, according to a commentary published today by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. In his paper, political scientist Professor Scott Greer, who specializes in researching the politics of health policies of the European Union, attempts to explain what the rising tide of the right in Europe and the United States will mean for medicine and public health.

Greer, Associate Professor of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, describes how in the UK the country's only important populist radical right party has substantially shaped the agenda of British politics, almost entirely through the adoption of UKIP positions by bigger mainstream parties.

Populism, he says, sits badly with the evidence-based style of public health, citing comments made by Mike Pence, the new United States Vice President, who has endorsed 'gay conversion' therapy that purports to make patients heterosexual and has said that 'smoking doesn't kill'.

Greer says: "Populist radical right parties are not naturally inclined to collective financing of healthcare services or taking regulatory public health measures." Instead, he says, the effect of 'welfare chauvinism' on health access is likely to be exclusionary, reducing benefits for migrants or others whom they consider outside the people of their populism.

Since World War II, public health and medicine in many countries has developed strong commitments to both human rights and vulnerable populations. Greer warns medical and public health professionals to be very careful about working with radical right parties and governments. "Any elective affinity between authoritarianism and public health would probably undermine our commitments to human rights," he says, and urges the medical and public health community to remain focused on promoting broadly egalitarian social policy, including the defence of health programmes.

Rob, did you not read the first three paragraphs before the article? As far as fish populations, perhaps he had other fish to fry, you know, like bailing us out of a near economic collapse with a steady hand. Or perhaps it was trying to restore our foreign relations from the abysmal depths that he inherited. I could give more examples but we just disagree, and yes, as you might have guessed, the extreme right scares me as much as any issue confronting us. Key word, extreme.

We should simply leave the radical lefts current health plan in place. No help in any way, so we can all find out how much better and smarter they really are. If this was done, no righty impact, so no blame on the outcome.

"The fix is correcting an entire attitude of selfish greed." Seriously, this will never be removed from human kind. Someone has to determine and define words like; fair, equitable, enough, right, wrong, etc.. you get the idea. This is not a left/right problem, its genetic.

The article itself is almost ready for publication on The Onion. Thanks for digging it up.

Well leta see here. Why did we have an economic collapse? Something to do with real estate. Something to do with banks being forced to lend to people who couldn't afford it to begin with. Hmmm wonder where that idea came from.

Mr Trump inherited the worst foreign relations situation since this country began. Obama's utter weakness in dealing with russia and syria proved ti the whole world we were impotent.
Not to mention leaving Israel out to dry.

Then there is an FBI unwilling to investigate criminal matters inside the administration then obstructing congress when they try to investigate. Etc. Etc. Etc.

We would have been better off with 8 more years of W.
The economic recovery was recovered by private enterprise and opec playing the competitive game instead of the got you by the short hairs game.
Obama did nothing.

Dang, a few years ago anyone creating these politically charged threads would have received a personal message from @Chris Scoones. Looks like we now have an official politics, cleverly disguised as a conservation forum. Not complaining mind you... but it is interesting how an election result can change things.

@freestoneangler My flex on the topic has more to do with election based cyclical timing than an election result. I know well that these topics can and have repeatably gone south, taking the tone of the forum and my support of the topics with it. By allowing those discussions lately I'm giving you guys another go at them to either adjust your approach if you wish for poli-topics to continue, or as an obvious reminder of why the no-poli-topics rule remains in place if once again things implode.

I sell hats made from recycled tin foil, PM me if interested P.S. I can do limited custom work
Already tried it. Scavengers won't leave me alone. A crow stole the last one.

Regarding the original post, the poignancy we witness from a group that discards all human care for exclusionary reasons renders hoping a sport fish will be protected by the same group irrelevant.

Knock yourself out - mosey on over there and do it yourself.

The ill-informed seem to think ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabab, and others, are all just gathered together in a tight circle, where a well-placed gas-air bomb can take them out if we really wanted to. It tickles me some that you think it's simple.

What gave you the impression i think it would be simple? Then again when was the last time America came together to do anything difficult?

The first gulf war that was a great victory but lets face it it was easy.
Vietnam was very hard but just as we were starting to actually fight we just up and left.

Everything else America does is just about spending enough money to make something happen.

America is becoming a weak nation because it's people refuse to attempt anything that is hard.

Let's do something hard.

Seems pretty obvious and quite simple to me. We know islam is a peaceful worldview, religion, philosophy and rule of law, they'll certainly have it taken care of in short order.

Since we've seen islam take care of their internal issues time and again we can just wait. We know full well there are none who'd like to go be-head infidels around the world. If islam can't live with people they mostly agree with they certainly can't live with those they don't, at all. We should just wait for the peace loving muslims to take care of the problem.

Yeah, that's a sure winner, good for world health care too!

Hey billy and smc, do you log off after each post or do you remain hidden? Just wondering why you'd choose that option. Wondering about your integrity I guess, do you prefer hiding?

Billy, if my worldview were islam I might be trying to kill everyone like you. Interesting, isn't it?

you didn't answer the question but maybe you were confused since all of a sudden you declared me a Islamic Terrorist more or less.

lets try a different question: is religion based on geography? if so why is your's right and anothers wrong?

I see what your doing billy but it has nothing to do with geography. People who believe as you do are supporting people who just want to kill you and me. Because we don't believe as they do. Nice try at switch and run. Don't understand why you'd try that though, see you're still hiding!

I'm saying I wouldn't want to kill anybody. If they can mind control people to that point we are dead because we're too stupid to understand and respond to it.

Why keep hiding? When I log in there's a green tab on top left, you apparently can be logged in but no one knows it, why?
