OK, not much of fishing report but I did manage to wet a line for the 2nd time this year.
Anyway, this weekend the wife dragged me to an old, run-down resort on the central Oregon coast at Yachats to celebrate 8 years of marital bondage and my B-day. The view from our room was tolerable and took some of the sting out of turning 55.
Saturday was too rough for fishing, especially with an 8wt.
Sunday was better. Actually looked perfect first thing in the morning with little wind, moderate surf and the tide just starting to come in. Unfortunately both the wind and surf had picked up by the time we got down there after choking down some overly tender prime rib at brunch. Still looked fishable, although I'm sure my wife had doubts as I was rigging up.
Naturally she took pics when the biggest waves were breaking (like I'm some kind of dare-devil fishing nut - yeah right). In spite of the rough conditions I was actually getting a decent retrieve most of the time and felt like I was fishing. Even hung-up a couple times so I know I was getting into the zone. The biggest problem was casting. The sink-tip I grabbed was poorly matched to the rod and would have been better suited to a 9 or 10wt. No hookups but I think I missed one tap.
The perspective makes this looks much dicier than it really was, but in spite of being nimble for an old fat guy I figured it was time to hit the road after this.
