It’s like a polyester- workout gear type. The inside is lined with fleece- usually plaid.

I also bought those Eddie Bauer fleece-lined pants, as well as the similar pants by Gerry (also at Costco). I think the Gerry pants seem a bit more durable than the Eddie Bauer ones (mainly the waistband, front button and zipper). I like these fleece-lined pants for winter golfing; haven't tried them in my waders. The front pockets on the Gerry pants are not as deep as the Eddie Bauer ones which I like for golfing as I don't have to dig as deep to retrieve a tee or ball marker. One thing I don't like is the Velcro on the back pockets, which seems to get in the way of everything, but I suppose it helps keep things from falling out of the pocket. It also seems to me that the Gerry pants are less affected by winter static cling as the Eddie Bauer pants.

No doubt that the Eddie Bauer's are nice pants but I already have the Gerry's. So far have only tried them on, good fit by the way, but the only thing that bothers me is the little barrel on the bungee cord at the cuff conflicting with my wading, or for sure, ski boots. If so I'll take them off and maybe see if a tailor could add an elastic foot strap with a couple of velcro tabs so it would be removeable.

 

Costco has good deals and things. My problem like most stores they don't go past 2xl. Wish they would at least go to 3xl for the big guys

 

I have a number of the Gerry products and have been happy with them.
Costco's Base 32 poly pros and their merino wool socks are good deals as well.

It's become my go to for everything clothing since I'm retired. No more shopping at the mall.

 

I have a pair from LL Bean and another from Kohls. Out here in the upper Midwest, they come in handy when the temps dip below zero.

 

Cheap fleece dries faster for whatever it's worth to anyone.

 

Long ago I had a woman from Maine. She bought me a pair of LL Bean flannel lined jeans. Since that day I've always had several pairs of flannel lined jeans (mostly Carhart now). For me they make a huge difference in my overall comfort compared to just plain jeans.

 

I wear those LL Bean flannel lined jeans all winter long. When it's really cold out, I have a couple of pairs of their fleece lined jeans that I wear.

Years ago my wife bought me a pair of LL Beans all wool pants for hunting. I love those things. They're warm, and quiet for hunting, but no longer fit me after nearly forty more winters have passed since I first got them!

 

Was at Costco yesterday. I needed some sweats for lounging around the house. Found these for $12.99 I believe. Might end up wearing them under my waders as well when I don't need heavy fleece.
Also bought a pair of the Eddie Bauer fleece lined pants. Bought my normal size jeans. Those will be going back. Way too tight.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered a pair off of the website because it said there were none in stock at my local store. It was delivered by UPS 2 days later than the delivery estimate (that's a subject for another thread) but here in time for an outing planned for Monday.

I ordered the size I wear for most jeans and they fit great; actually a tad loose. That's OK because I can wear one or two base layer shirts tucked in. They are warm, seem well made with good sized Jeans-style pockets, hook-loop closures for the back patch pockets, and a big zippered security thigh pocket. I wear suspenders with most of my outdoors trousers and might sew some buttons around the waistband.

Found those at the Tumwater Costco last night. Bought two.

 

For what it's worth, Simms recommends only fleece outer wear under their waders.
They contend that jeans or other not so soft fabrics cause more leaks in their waders from the inside than almost
anything.
I would assume that would be true for other brands of breathable waders as well.

 

I remember you telling me this as you donned your Simms G9's, size XXXXXL. Seriously though - since that word of advice, I've only worn either fleece or nylon covered fleece (patahooligan stuff) under my waders.

Waders, that's another theme. I need a new pair and am thinking "zippered".

 

Personally I can't stand fleece lined jeans for any use. When I think of focusing on warmth then jeans of any sort just aren't part of the equation.

My favorite for under waders/rain bibs and general warmth and layering are these fleece pants. Not the cheapest pants out there but super comfortable and they take a beating. I love the zippered pockets, especially on the ocean. No risk of wallet or keys going into the drink when I pull the bibs down to pee.

I have a nice pair of fleece trousers for skiing and mountaineering with full length coil zippers so I could don or doff them with my ski boots-climbing boots (+ crampons) on. They have zippered front and rear pockets, but no fly.

The fleece-lined nylon-spandex jeans are nice & soft and shouldn't damage waders, are windproof, and have a zippered fly like the Kuhl Renegade hiking pants I wear under my front zip waders waders when it's just a bit too cold to wet wade. Plus IMHO the jeans style doesn't look dorky for the après-fish pub stop.

 

I tried the fleeced lined pants from Costco....too hot for my metabolism. I was a sweaty mess.
I am the guy wearing shorts in the winter.

 

When it's "Rain Bib" time out on a boat, IMHO any denim (Carhart jacket or blue jeans) is counterproductive. Restricts movement, heavy and has very little insulation. But when it's not raining or wet ..denim is a time proven option. Mostly because it is durable. If I'm walking or working in the snow I want lined jeans (and probably merino wool long johns).

 

The new trousers and first outing with a USAF GT APECS parka (nice new GT jacket with tags, $60) got my mojo workin', and helped lift me out of a recent beach slump.

Coming from New Zealand shipping and duties must make them rather expensive or are they sold/available thru local outlets..? From what I've read on their website, it appears they only available out of New Zealand..

I've bought all of mine at Englunds Marine in Westport.

 

If you've got a 40" waist or larger and want to drive to the Lynnwood Costco, you're in luck....

 

That's two strikes for me, I guess. And I live in Lynnwood.

Now, if they had waterproof socks…

 

I buy a few pairs every year- try to wait until they go clearance. They changed them a little this year- December 2024. Only 1 side has a pocket & the strings on the waist are on the inside. They also seem a little thicker. They are pull- on. The front pockets don’t have zippers. The cargo pocket(s) on the side & the one pocket in the back have zippers.
