I would like to float down the Yakima this week and wanted to know the best place to launch and float down. This will be my first time floating down the river. What cautions should I take floating down the yak? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

A nice easy float is Ringer ( right off of canyon road take a right on Ringer Loop Road ) to Reds Fly Shop. You can call Steve at Reds before hand to set up a taxi. There is nothing really to worry about and everything is pretty visible (rocks, etc..). The water is running pretty high right now and fassssstt.. meaning a float from Ringer to Reds 2 months ago would take 6-8 hours .. last weekend it took us 3-5.

There are several other good take outs like Umtanum, Roza, etc.. here is a link to a good map which shows the take outs etc...

Good Luck!!!
