I'm new to fly fishing and I have yet to get on the water here in Washington. What are the safe/ideal flow rates for the Snoqualmie and Yak?

I don't want my first trip out to my last?

Well, the flows on both the Yak and the Snoq are quite well above the normal, but that's not to say they aren't fishable or safe to wade. And the easy way to not make your first trip your last is to go fishing without doing anything stupid. Smart people always return home after a day's fishing.

I would be hesitant about wading across either river right now. It's not only spring runoff, but we are having flows higher than normal for the past history of the river.

I personally like to fish rivers that are smaller and clearer than they are now. The water is probably pretty turbid, cold and fast. No doubt the fish are still there, but I bet they are tight to cover and tough to get a fly to right now.
