hiked into a little marshy lake yesterday. Did well on a little marabou leech, tan soft hackle, and a carey special. All were fished on a floating line. Most fish were 5-9 inches with a few surprises.

Nice little 13"er! Skinny due to not fully recovering from spawning yet, no doubt.

I've seen snaakier ones. Last month I caught a planted broodstock cutt in Lake Nahwatzel that was 17" long and the head probably outweighed the rest of it!. It was also pretty naive, as i kept missing its strikes until I finally hooked up. Then it didn't fight hardly at all.

I'll bet your 13" wild "snake" fought a lot better than than tired old spawner i released after a 15 second "battle."
