Just got off the phone with my fishing buddy John.
He was just plain giddy...He lives on a private beach
on lower Hoods Canal. As he was walking his dog by the water
he was swarmed by termites and looking at the water there were fish coming
up everywhere. Back to the house, grabs an old glass rod with floating line, ties on a tan caddis (size 10), and into fish. He said he hooked about a dozen
Coastal Cuts casting to rise forms or stripping it under the surface. Nothing
large, most 12 to 15 inches but as he said it was like fishing a lake
in the salt.

They've been hatchin' out of the downed spruce and bustin' their jaws on my hardyboard (until my spider security force gets 'em!) for a few days out here, even in the rain.

I like A rusty colored Stimulator, about size 6 works fine, barbless of course. That ginger colored McMillan's Steelhead Caddis is a good one for sure, also size 6. In tying my own I like the Skip Morris Arizona Sparkle Dubbing in the October Caddis color.

up slurping the bugs, no hesitation or rush..
he went out the next evening and nothing,
Seems strange that one night up and down
the beach dozens of fish coming up everywhere
and the next eve nada...
such is fishing.

If the venerable Sea Run Coastal Cutthroat trout were any more predictable than this I would think that they simply would have been wiped out by now. Thank God for their many diverse adaptive startegies.
