I am still in the learning stages and I have a question about furled leaders for spey set up's. Are the these leaders made to sink? And in generally speaking terms are they rated slow, fast, extra fast or none of the above?

Removed a few posts to put the thread back on track. The question was not if furled leaders are necessary, and it wasn't where he could buy them. If you don't have anything to add beyond those tangents you might refrain from hitting the reply button.

I got a handful of furled leaders from a guy named Quigley. Most I got were for trout fishing but he had some longer heavy weighted ones for salt water. I tried one of these on my floating skagit line that I was toying with on the beach. I'd say that it seemed to work for me. The anchor seemed to hold, the fly turned over and landed pretty quietly at the end of the cast. I used one all season long for two hand overhead casting with my heavier switch rod. One is flourocarbon, the other is monofilament. It worked for me and that is all that matters to me. I'm not sure if they work well or not, but I'm a believer. I can't afford to use them exclusively, but I'll get one every now and then. I also have a friend that has a jig...and he made me a couple heavier duty ones that I've yet to try, but I'm gonna. Best of luck. Let me know if you want to know where I got them and I'll send you his contact info.

If you want one of these to float make it out of nylon thread (sewing or tying) and dress it with floatant, the flouro ones should sink well enough.
Furled leaders are not hard to make, don't tangle and you should be able to fish one for months if trout fishing.
