So who is finding what "too good to pass up" deals on fishing gear during this years Black Friday and Cyber Monday events? I picked up a pair of Herter's hip boots, but their really for keeping me dry while moving wheel lines next season :). Heck of a price on both the boot foot and stocking foot.

I'm also eyeing a couple of spotting scopes, but need to do some additional research on them. Then there's the LSi Rod/Reel combo. My brother bought that a couple years ago and I had a chance to fish that rod... really nice for the $$.

So what are you going broke on - saving money? :D

I ignore Black Friday, although I did need to make a quick Costco run yesterday.

Good deal on those hip boots. I could use a pair, but I don't wear size 7, 8, or 9. I've got more gear than I can keep track of as it is. I'm not really looking to acquire more stuff to lose track of.
Hip boots are good for wearing while washing cars

Not sure if this thread includes used and or NFR gear.... flame away if I'm off topic:
-- There's a John Deere x500 Garden Tractor in the local Craigslist with 78hrs for $1500.00, but the poster won't reply back to me. If they do and it's legit I'll buy it in a nano-second
--This time of the year I get about a dozen emails from companies that produce software for recording and producing music. The deals are typically 50% off of normal retail. I could save so much money that I wind up going broke if I didn't have so much self-control.

on topic:
strangely enough I'm not particularly smitten for more fishing gear. I do want to get a good sized raft, something that seats 3 folks. But, the lawn tractor is higher on the 'needs' list. If aforementioned John Deere pans out, that would open some budget for a used raft... so I guess it all comes back to fishing after all.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and if you don't get that Black Friday deal you want, send it off in a letter to Santa. That auspicious holiday is just around the proverbial corner.

I cybered an Airflo Switch Float 390 grain. Can't wait to see what it can do!
I have that line on my 3wt trout spey; (smaller grainage though). I really like it, very nice taper; sweet casting. Let us know how you like it.

I have a 3wt winston microspey. I'm VERY curious if that is the same rod you have. I use this rod to fish the sound, I have an OPST head and other running line on it. I LOVE how far I can go out with it and two handed casting in general, BUT I do lose a bunch of feet of retrieve given pulling the whole head and the sink tip through the guides is not fun and makes for about 5 minutes between casts to get the head back to the right place.

We don't have Thanksgiving over here, but all the shops jump on the black friday sales thing! Worked out to be a good time to get plane tickets to go to Australia for 2 weeks in January & fish the salt visiting my parents on the N. S. W south coast!
I saw videos of the worldwide Black Friday mayhem and carnage and was embarrassed. Of all of the things the US has exported to the rest of the world, this may be the worst.

This black friday was also the same day as our National "Don't buy anything day", years ago I heard on the radio at work today is don't buy anything day, OK, a good day to go to City Market on the way home, a large store that sells food, clothing, electrical, sporting, almost anything you could need, seems everyone else thought the same thing! Shop was packed with people!

I have the Reddington 3wt, not the Winston. I wish I had the Winston.... WRT stripping back a shooting head and sink tip. Pretty tough to go past the shooting head to sink tip connection with any setup IMO; I don't do it much if ever. I can usually get the shooting head back out through the guides quickly by waving the rod back and forth horizontally and feeding the line through the stripper guide. This puts the head in a few swirls in front of you. From there I throw a downstream roll cast into the hang down position and follow that with whatever spey/skagit cast to start fishing again. Give it a try. Others here might have better suggestions.

Whoever created and scheduled a the do not buy anything day to coincide with Black Friday or Cyber Monday is big on hope and small on brains.
