I just got a really clean Fenwick FF9010 from Ebay, the rod is essentially unused but I was curious about the male ferrule, normally I see them filled with epoxy or something, but this rod doesn't have one.
Is this a structural issue or just something to keep water and dirt out of the blank?
I was thinking I would just plug it with foam or something...thoughts?

Sure, a small piece or foam or a dab of silicone. Odd how some of the older rods have the filler missing.

I had a Loomis rod lose its male ferrule plug and they sent me some rubber cones of different sizes. You worked it in and then trimmed it. Adds a bumper for the end and keeps derbies out.

Male spigot ferrule on my Lami 7wt is missing the plug, guess its not all that unusual on the older rods, think I'll plug it with something. Glad you asked Dave I was wondering about that as well.

I had a old now gone fiberglass rod that had a small cork inset in the male ferrule.
On my old IM6 Loomis graphite rods, they used to use a small triangular piece of rubber.
