Just wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions for wooden landing nets. Looking for a company that makes a good, durable, nice looking net that also has a variety of shapes and lengths. Right now I know of Wachter, Fisknat and Brodin. Any other suggestions out there, or reviews on these?

I see you mentioned Fisknat. I'm on year # four with my Fisknat Boat Net and love it. They are a little spendy and the finish is a little weak, but if you don't mind the High price and shoddy workmanship it's a great net.
No really, they are easy to refinish and look great.

im not sure what is bein asked? i mean a net's a net really. you pay more for rubber. then pay more for fancy woodwork. just find one in the shape you want with the bag size/material you want. then buy it. i have a fisknat, im super happy with it, for no other reason than it works for me. i forgot what i paid for it by now, and i could care less that the finish isnt perfect. its a tool to land fish, and its pretty good at it. my $.02.

I have a Fisknat net and I love it. It is very well made and it is beautiful as well as functional. When I'm not using it, it leans against the wall in my house as a decoration! I think Bob makes one of the best nets out there and he was the first one to make a complete line of wooden nets with a rubber net bag.

As for the 'shoddy' finish, sorry Bill, but I thnk it is anything but shoddy. It is a hand-rubbed oil finish and just like any wood that is exposed to the elements, it too needs to be maintained. The good news is that it is very easy to maintain, unlike varnish and other hard finishes. Just pick up a bottle of Tru-Oil (often used for gunstocks and guitars) at a sporting goods store. With it and some fine steelwool (or a rag or your finger if you didn't let it get too bad), you'll have the net looking like new in no time and it should last for years.

Sue.

Read on, I did say I love the net and was KINDA joking around. But the net I bought did have a weak finish that lasted no time at all. I think for the price of $178.00 Bob could use a little more durable finish like the Man O War Marine Spar Varnish that I REdid my net with.It has lasted 3 times longer than the weak finish Bob put on it originally.

I have owned at least fifteen nets in twenty years, I only changed due to better mesh availability,,,,until I bought a Fisknet,,,,Broke it in two months, brought it back to Tacoma for a fix, it broke again imediatley,,,,I fixed it myself by wrapping weed line for a foot up the handle from the hoop,,,,by then I had bought a Measure net medium sized and it is awesome best of all it does not lie,,,,or at least let anyone close by lie,,,, a great quality in a fishing device:).

For steelhead I use a net purchased in BC called the Babine without a doubt the best net ever and looks great, a super strong and light handle /hoop of Wood and knotless mess that is very good on the fish, best of all it floats and acts like a little PEN wile de-hooking the fish, a great quality when handling a native steelhead. It sells for 170 bucks or so and worth every penny. The only wood net I have ever owned that has never broken.

The Moby nets look awesome, I haven't seen them until now. It looks like they don't sell on-line, and the only shops listed on they web site are Canadian, not that there's anything wrong with that!...lol Is there a fly shop selling these in the area?

Another status symbol it looks like. A net should treat the fish well, be the size you need, have a good catch to attach to your boat or vest etc. [in case you lose your grip] and float, [same reason] Looks are nice, and quality is more important, meeting state regs is good. Many nets, even hgh priced nets don't meet all of those qualifcations. I may not be able to afford a lot, but I can almost buy a whole outfit for $180.00. I might have to skip the net at that price. tight lines and happy fishing Bob Good , nice looking, not even a reasonable description for a mid price net Would you buy on just that basis?
