Went out fishing the other day, hadn't even got to the water yet and...squish...what the...look down and WHACK! I had stepped on a rather large rattlesnake. It bit me. No worries, just got my boot at the ankle. Wish I had a head cam though to tape it. I stepped on three more that day, nearly got eight others, and sent several "off" as I walked by.

I want a head cam. I need a head cam. I could relive that moment over and over if I had one. The thing is, I bought my first camera about a month ago and....well, it sucks taking pics of fish by yourself. Well that, and I could have got my first rattlesnake bite on film.

I need suggestions on a head cam. Anyone here have any? I'm just wondering if there are some that are better than others for fishing purposes.

Mumbles, before you do that "Google thing" to me, know that I'm on to you! :clown:

Oh ya, I think I figured out why the fishing is so good and there's little pressure.

Oldschool, did you google it? I did...http://tinyurl.com/3ya54d8
There have been quite a few folks who have recommeded the Go Pro...I'm thinking of buying one myself. I have an inexpensive Oregon Scientific ATC2K and it works but not nearly the quality of footage as some of the Go Pro viddy's that have been shown recently. I know a lot of snowboarders / splitboarders that use the remote cameras that cable link to power sources in backpacks. These lipstick type cameras are small on the helmet but take a bunch of extra gear in dry bags or cases in the backpack. Not as convenient in my mind.

Ya mumbles I did. I found (sorta) the same thing. The reason I say sorta is because when it comes to technical stuff like this I get lost real easy. Heck, I just got an electric can opener last year...I can barely run that.

Anyway, I guess I'm doing the ol', "Tell me your favorite hole and what fly to use" tactic here when it comes to electronicish hoolee doolee's. That's a technical term by the way, you can look it up. :)

That Go Pro has my eye, but I use a Fish Pond pack around my waist and wonder if it will interfere with my casting.

Hey Mumbles, I got it.....you go buy one tomorrow, use it this weekend and then get back to me...? There's your excuse to buy one. You'll help the economy and be doing research. What do you think?

Hey Oldschool, we have the Go Pro at work and a co-worker bought it, took it rafting, captured some videos and to my opinion its pretty neat. he's not a very "technical" person and he didn't seem to have any problems using it. which has lead me to go and get one soon myself.

Please post where the "hole" is so I know never to go there

Maybe I'm missing something but when I read this, snake chaps seem a more appropriate purchase than a Go Pro, lol!
agreed, dislike those bastards. Unless they are on my dinner plate deep fried.

I've field tested several while paragliding. Two at the top of the list are:

GoPro Hero HD:
http://www.goprocamera.com/index.php...2&productid=29
Good image capture, small, lightweight and waterproof. Downside is the buttons can be hard to use when in the midst of action (they are small and not clearly labeled) and its nearly impossible to use while wearing gloves.

Best in my opinion: Seattle-based Vholdr's Contour HD
http://vholdr.com/contourhd/helmetcam

Easy to start and stop recording even with gloves. Great image quality. Easy to use and standardized format works with Macs and PCs with no special software.

Mumbles are you enabling this kind of logic?

1- man steps on snake
2- snake bites man
3- man steps on three more snakes
4- Man concludes he needs a head camera

Yeah, I know, you just wanted to use the word "Lipstick"....

Hahaha, I had a good chuckle when I saw this. I just got back from slanging it on a dry side of some state with a similar experience. Tromping through grass and nettles blindly this morning I stepped on a sluggish 3-4 footer. Most certainly the biggest rattler I have seen in the wild. It promptly coiled and struck and while it missed me, I was left....well rattled, if you'll excuse the pun. The funny part is that I have been saving for a GoPro Hero for a couple of months (for other reasons, such as solo mission fish porn and casting. Not getting blasted by snakes). Now I think I am getting snake proof gaiters and the hero. Call me a pussy, but I walk way back in by myself, and I like life. Ill take every bear in alaska over a meadow full of pissy snakes.

5- Man who decided camera was more important than keeping an eye out or protective clothign falls to the venom
6- Someone finds the lipstick camera and I know a guy that know a guy that knows another guy that can get me the footage so I can see how to get to that hole...and avoid the snakes.
7- Mumbles follows that footage track and nails his first brown...and it is massive

Good catch Boot...I filled in a few of my devious details.

Thanx for the feedback guys. I'm not sure I could have found that kind of info on my own. I can't believe how popular these things are becoming! Ain't technology great!

Heck, who needs NASCAR....Just tape yourself driving to work, take it home and watch it in fast-forward.
