I picked up a Rainshadow rx 7wt switch last week for a good price also, matched it up with a Redington CD 9/10 reel, should do me well here in Ohio for steel. But matching up line is another Question, the rod grain weight is 185 -380, I was looking into Rio Outbound short (floating) in either a 9wt(375gr) or 10wt(425gr) with a 30ft head. My thoughts were if I went with the 10wt I could trim a ft or two off to find the right grain for the rod and still have plenty of head left to D loop cast/rollcast with.Im not sure how the 9wt will effectively D-loop cast cause its just under the high grain wt side. What do you all think??

Kruggy, can you demo those lines anywhere locally? I think you would like the 9wt better but can't be sure until you put your stroke to your rod and that line. I think I've got an Airflo 40+ or Rio Outbound in 9wt that I could ship you to try. I think that the 10wt would be potentially heavy, and I like my lines at the heavy end of grain windows.

I would line the rod for the primary tactic you'll fish. If nymphs & indies I wouldn't push the upper grain window to hard. That's likely more skagit country. How long of a taper do you like? Just a guess here [don't know the rod] but I'm thinking a 8 or 9wt Salmon/Steelhead, Clouser, Bass, Pike or Indicator taper could fit.. Maybe you have one around already.

Try whatever you have for now, standard 8 - 10wts, WF or DT.. They'll give you a feel towards what your looking for.
