Hello,

I'm actually in France and after several trips in Idaho and Montana, I'd like to try the Grande Ronde or the Clearwater for steelhead.

What rod is necessary for the grande ronde (and the clearwater) the river seems to be really different upstream and downstream from Troy?

I plan my trip for early october, is it a good time for these rivers ?

Fabrice,
My advice to you would be to find a reputable guide. October on the ronde can be great, however crowds are heavy so expect to be elbow to elbow on the popular runs with road access. Without a guide, and any area knowledge, I would expect a lot of frustration and no steelhead.

Oh, 7wt-8wt single hand rods and 6-8wt double handers. I fish a 6wt switch for skating/waking flies and a 7wt spey with a poly leader for a little deeper presentation (and a secretly a 10' 8wt for nymphing if the fish make me do it)
