I am putting new lines on a couple of my rods but have been out of the game for a while and appreciate the advice of guys who fish.

So I am planning a trip to the Missouri next year for a couple days of drifting (mid August). I see that many big fish are taken with streamers but the river is moderatly shallow. What line would I need for this type of fishing?

The rods I own are a Sage 7100 graphite II and a 6 wt Glx (along with a few 4 wt rods).

Would I use the 7100 for the streamer fishing? I have an 18 year old 7wt SA Steelhead sink tip (gray with dark gray tip). Do I need/want a line more specific to streamer fishing?

Thanks again,
Mike

It's not that shallow.....i would suggest an airflo quick max 6 or a rio streamer tip 7wt with the 7.5 clear fast intermediate and the get a few airflo poly leaders and adjust for depth with those.

Focus on the the low light hours for your streamer fishing....mornings are usually best.

For a river I prefer a 3-4" a sec or alittle bit greater sink... are you floating or wading? I've fished sink tips and full sink... If I could pick only one I would go with a full sink... Just my style... That SA should be just fine that you have... Good luck

Interesting, the different perspectives.

Though I agree with Rick, I've fished with guides in MT who feel a person just needs a floating line and heavily weighted bugs when streamer fishing.

I'd agree with Denny. I lived in Helena for a couple of years and fished the Missouri a fair amount. When fishing streamers, standard floating line with a weighted bug. They actually don't need to be that heavily weighted. I'd go rabbit strip with standard dumbell eyes and call it good.

Your 7100 is overkill for streamers especially if you're drifting. The 6 wt GLX is your magic rod for the application you're asking about. I use an Airflo Ridge Line in the Distance Taper for all of the Glx fishing , for streamers I add the Extra Super fast sinking leader in 5 ft length and then 10# P-Line for tippet. You're gonna have to figure out the streamer for yourself.
Good Luck!!
