I have a couple of older Hardys and was wondering how you can tell if they are made in England or Asia. I was told that if the letter "A" precedes the serial number it was made in England. I was also told that it will say " Made in England" on the face plate and that this is the only to determine that the reel was made in England. Any thoughts?

How does one determine where a Hady Reel is made?

I'm not sure when Hardy moved reel production offshore, but it's my impression that it wasn't until recently when they started making the whiz-bang machined disc-drag reels like the Angel. Chances are if your Hardy is more than 5 or 10 years old and has a click-pawl drag, it's UK-made.

If it says Made in England it is Made in England. If it says nothing it is Made in Korea. If it is a Bougle Mark VI and it says nothing but has an A serial number it may be Made In England or just assembled in England with Korean parts.
