I need your opinion on something...

Is it appropriate to fly fish without a shirt?

Now that summer is here I sometimes feel like rollin' suns out guns out. But the gentleman in me says keep the collar on and continue to cast my dry upstream.

What say you?

For context, this is pretty much me but without the tattoos. I get swole bro.

Oh, Gawd! Swimmy, you're at it again! :D:eek::D

The buff is missing... unless you consider the guy as buff.

If I'm gear fishing, this is a no brainer. But I struggle with this topic when fly fishing.

And age should have nothing to do with this conversation.

Freewill is a mighty good thing.
Hell no, I fly fish in my swimming trunks at times. What fly fishing rules? I have never seen a sign on a body of water that states all fisherman must be fully clothed. I have dry fly on the icicle, I have chucked streamers in the S rivers, I have nymphed near E-berg, and poppered on the PS beaches all in my swim trunks w/o shirt. Just fish...attire wear choice optional!!!
no shirt, bro. You are on the river to impress. Fishing is secondary.
It depends on what your fishing for, trout get a nice shirt they deserve it, bass are white trash fish and could care less what you are wearing if anything at all, that's why Billy does so good

I haven't been posting here for long so I hope this doesn't come across as rude, but you asked.

Maybe you should ask yourself whether or not you should be concerned with what other people think about your appearance. Because it sounds like you're afraid of being that "shirtless animal with a fly rod" guy. Seriously?

I have no problem swinging Hazel with no shirt if it's hot enough to warrant going shirtless. Hell, I've even waded it and fished in my undershorts after doffing my neoprenes, NASCAR t-shirt and cargo shorts (yes, that was me). And I'm definitely not as lean as the guy in the pic.

Yes, a few people have looked at me funny but they all get it. It's friggin hot outside in the summertime. And do you think I give a fuck? It's about comfort, not image, and I couldn't care less about what other people think of me, spey rod in hand or not. YMMV.

Richard
Don't you half naked/naked guys worry about a flubbed backcast while fishing?

I actually started this thread for her. Me taking my shirt off is a sure fire way to get more ladies into the sport.

Yes Richard, you are new. Otherwise you'd already know this is all I care about.
