Thank you to the two jackholes snagging chum this fall who told me to "f" myself when i called them on it. To the two ass clowns who low-holed me, then gave me shit when i had to land a fish down stream of them. To the puke casting eggs over my line, then cussing at ME when we got snagged. To the three *******, inbreds who crowded into the hole i was fishing (with three hundred yards of open water downstream of me) then talked about how fly fishermen were pussies, blah, blah. And of course a great big thank you to all the poachers, litterers and other inconsiderate jackasses out on the water. Thank you for helping me realize that I'M DONE!!! Just think of all the other things i could be doing instead of chasing steelhead. hhhmmmmmmm.

Yes, on some westside fisheries, absolutely. Take Blue Creek area for instance; I'm convinced this is where the state releases inmates. Of course they get a $5 bill, a whumpun stick and reel, a spool of 20# spiderwire, a spool of pencil lead and a package of 3/0 hooks -- on the house from the taxpayers :thumb:

Of all the states I've fished, WA is by far the worst when it comes to streamside manners and stewardship (christ, just check out how many stream clean ups are done to maintain some level of decor)! I tried to find some decent flyfishing water on the Puyallup this past season and was quickly engulfed by foriegn speaking, inconsiderate, blatant poachers. I decided to try another spot, and hour into the fishing, some youngsters showed up flinging lines everywhere and fouling my swings a couple times. These guys were in their teens and when I suggested they simply try and time their casts a little better, I got an earful of foul mouth which included the question "why are you trying to flyfish when everyone else is gear fishing" (mind you I was fishing clear of anyone by a 100 yds or so before they showed up). Years ago, that would have prompted me to engage and chew their ass, but now I just chalk it up to the quality of life and great examples from which these young folks are from.

Puget Sound region waters are lowest on my to do list, with some having been removed completely. To those who take this as great news I say -- may your waders leak and your line stay limp:D

Not sure where you guys fish but I rarely have bad experiences. It is what you make it. If you look for shit to complain about you will certainly find it.

If there was more time left in the year I bet this could turn into the most useless thread of '09.

Your abslulty right! WA fisheries sucks ass!! I am from Idaho, a state that makes all there revinue from wildlife sporting. They know how to do it, I have often said that every state should model their laws after Alaska. They really know what they are doing! As for the ass holes talking shit on the river, no your not done! I always bring a knife for those unlucky ones that want to interupt my fishing. They will loose alot of gear fishing around me, ill just grab there line and snap! And if they want to get physical there are about 1,000 rocks under my feet that says they don't get close enough to even swing!! If you do this shit in Idaho, or Alsaska there is no excuses for not knowing the regs, your ass is in jail and charged with a crime, and you loose all your gear! Kick ass and stand up for our natural resorces!!! Carry your phone, and your fists! Ill tell you all a funny story... I was fishing a hole one day when 3 guys in a drift boat showed up and thought they would anchor in my hole. I said what the hell are you doing? You have the whole river and you are going to fuck with me. Well they told me to fuck off and one made the comment that they would come to shore and take care of me, well needless to say I stated the obvious and told them there were about 2,000 rocks under my feet that said they wouldn't make it in to shore! I played college football at ASU and can hold my own allthough I am not as big as I used to be! I can still drop three guys with rocks!! I guess I am saying that we need out spoken people to protect what is ours!!! Keep it up and be careful, say the wrong thing to someone and be prepared!

Within reason mate.

If you look for shit to complain about you will certainly find it.
Finding some out of the way water, having it to yourself for a while, then having others show up and deliberately fish over you, attack you for using a different method (or wanting to follow the rules/laws, and respect the resource) is not looking for something to complain about.

am I done? Naw, I've long realized that I'm not 'meat' fishing the way the boys in the Puyallup, Samish, or Skok are, and fish different areas accordingly.

thats funny cuz last time i was out, it was quickly engulfed by english speaking, inconsiderate, blatant poachers.

freestoneangler, i certainly hope i don't develop the wrong impression about you since i haven't even met you before but your recent tirade on what seemed like you were putting blame on asian people for bad products...along with a random little sly comment about "foreigners" in here...it does make me wonder...

completely agree with this. you go chasing crowds, you're going to find crowds.

for every section of puyallup thats crowded, theres other rivers and sections that give you plenty of room. my friends always complain about Tokul and Reitors being crowded, blah blah. then go somewhere else, not that difficult.

I don't understand the problem. With all the water to fish in Western Washington all you have to do is move to someplace else on the river. If there is a crowd around I always moved to someplace else. I mean that some of these rivers are 75 miles long. Go find a bare open spot. When ever a crowd showed up I always left. On the drive to many rivers you always cross a few on the way there. And if one looks hard enough you can always find a place to go where there is nobody there.

I have to say I never have these bad experiences. When I fished the Sky this fall for salmon there were plenty of others around. During the pink run there were gear fishers frequently within 30 ft on either side of me. We all had a good time and tried not to cause problems. If someone crossed my line, we untangled the mess and went back to fishing. Whats' the problem? During the chum run I had gear guys give me good advice on where to place my fly and I caught fish. My experience is that a smile and a little tolerance goes a long way to make the day pleasant for everyone.

Did I say I was "blaming asian people" or limit my contempt for rudeness to "foriegners", re-read the post before you make your impression about me. Nothing indirect or sly about my comments, just calling it like I see it. Fly Punk is just voicing some of his feelings about the lack of river etiquette... I share his view based on the examples I listed. I have fished here in WA for 20+ years and it's not getting any better.

So here lies the reason to search out some spots that produce fish away from the masses. I don't mind walking to avoid these kinds of folks, mostly these folks aren't the ones that'll actually walk any farther than they have to, to get into fish. I would say "take a chill pill" and walk to the next bar up or down. I have had problems like these when fishing popular spots, but since buying a machette and hacking my way up through the woods, I've found some amazing fishing without this hassle. If your unwilling to search out the least traveled path, then this is what you get.

In a couple of months I'll be 53, long since past the time of fighting over a fishing spot!" Discretion is the better part of valor". To many crazies out there. I will state my case and move on, you can always find some place to fish. As far as poachers go, I can't tell you the last time I saw a game warden on the river. If we had some more enforcement it would help, but that takes money and no one wants to pay taxes!!

I understand. Just came off that way and maybe I was reading into it more than I should. My apologies for putting you on the spot there.

I didn't mean to create "the most useless thread of '09", I guess i'm just get a little frustrated. I do seek out a little solitude on the river, and it is just a pain in the ass when you get crowded out and verbally acosted. I'm a pretty mellow guy and really wouldn't mind fishing around other people if they weren't so rude or blatantly fishing illegally. Like i said i just get a little frustrated.
