Yes, on some westside fisheries, absolutely. Take Blue Creek area for instance; I'm convinced this is where the state releases inmates. Of course they get a $5 bill, a whumpun stick and reel, a spool of 20# spiderwire, a spool of pencil lead and a package of 3/0 hooks -- on the house from the taxpayers :thumb:
Of all the states I've fished, WA is by far the worst when it comes to streamside manners and stewardship (christ, just check out how many stream clean ups are done to maintain some level of decor)! I tried to find some decent flyfishing water on the Puyallup this past season and was quickly engulfed by foriegn speaking, inconsiderate, blatant poachers. I decided to try another spot, and hour into the fishing, some youngsters showed up flinging lines everywhere and fouling my swings a couple times. These guys were in their teens and when I suggested they simply try and time their casts a little better, I got an earful of foul mouth which included the question "why are you trying to flyfish when everyone else is gear fishing" (mind you I was fishing clear of anyone by a 100 yds or so before they showed up). Years ago, that would have prompted me to engage and chew their ass, but now I just chalk it up to the quality of life and great examples from which these young folks are from.
Puget Sound region waters are lowest on my to do list, with some having been removed completely. To those who take this as great news I say --
may your waders leak and your line stay limp
