Most flyfishers I know are suckers for the next new gadget, better rat trap, etc.

So what is the deal with Korkers? I have seen them, I like them, but who has used them for a while? What do you think of them? Or what did you hear from a buddy of yours? Everybody's two cents are more than welcome.

BTW - Outdoor Emporium in Seattle has them for $109!

For those not familiar with Korkers, they are wading boots with interchangable soles: hiker, felt, studded felt, and studded rubber. www.korkers.com

I thought those boots looked interesting at the Flyfishing show. They were giving out $10 rebates- I'm betting if you emailed them they'd send you one. The concept is intriguing and the uppers do *look* comforatble. I tend to break my stuff tho so I'll wait for others to field test them (sounds like you have the same idea). I pounded my most recent boots, Patagonia non-beefy, pretty quick. A couple weeks ago I found some Simms Guide boots on seirratradingpost.com for $59.

Well, I can speak something of the topic because being in dire need for a new pair of wading boots, I went out a couple of weeks ago and bought a pair of Korkers. I figure hell, if I don't like them, I'll just save them for summer time small stream fishing...

So far they've treated me well, the ability to be able to swap soles is incredible (!) Out fishing the Peninsula, throw on the studs. Fishing in a boat? Throw on the felt...

I've only fished them for about 7 days now, but so far they seem good. The left book sole seemed to be not seated properly at first, and made an annoying popping sound as I walked. I fixed it by reseating the sole, however.

The biggest problem I can forsee with them is with the velcro that keeps the soles in place. At the moment, they've started to curl up at the ends, and that's only after a weeks worth of wear. I'm starting to worry about what they'll be like after a year, but luckily they come with a year long warranty.

However, a friend at a fly shop says he's talked to a few people, and people are starting to see problems with the velcro. We'll see how it goes...

Aside from that, they weigh about half what my old Simms Guide Boots weigh and are very comfy! We'll see how long they last...
