I want to say some nice things about John McLain's feathersmc website (www.feathersmc.com). Am tying some Ackroyd Dee flies and Glasso speys so I placed a first time order for teal, gadwall, orange floss, orange seals fur and cinnamon turkey. It's not easy finding Cinnamon Turkey for a dee flies and his site had three different shades.

The order arrived today. The materials were great quality. There was also a speckled bustard feather in the order (see attachment)! I emailed John McLain to find out if this was some sort of mistake and he said that the zoo gives him moulted Speckled Bustard feathers so he gives them away. A single Speckled Bustard feather is $90 if you buy it from Japan.

I have a new source for fly tying materials.

I have done business with John for years for special feathers and the like. Always top notch materials. He goes out of his way to get you what you need. For example I needed a rare and not well documented turkey feather for a particular pattern and John found perfect turkey feathers to meet the requirements. And the Kori Bustard program he has going with the National Zoo in DC certainly has made many classic tyers in the US very happy campers. When he has it, his micro ostrich herl is spectacular for butts on Classic Salmon flies. There is nothing else like it.

I'll add a positive comment for John's customer service and materials. My wife and I have been doing busines with John for years. I'm always surprised at how quickly our goodies arrive and have come to depend on the high quality of all the materials I've purchased from John.
