Family plans changes friday at about lunch and the kitchen pass was granted. Packed the car with gear, left-overs, and the hammock in less than an hour and hit the road.

Figured 3 decent sessions were doable, fri nite, sat early and late. Got on the water finally at about 7pm on a new piece of water to me. Fishing mainly plunge pools and billy-goating over and around granite. It was worth it.

Early up and hit the trail, forgetting it was Saturday, actually thought there was going to be a bit of solitude. Place was crawling with humanity...

Trapper obviously came to mind. This is the trailhead for some major back country trips...and there was a major horse event going on as well. Stopped counting rigs when I hit 40.

Bounced around quite a bit to get some access without the mouth-breathers. Realized it was time to move and bush whack a bit. Found some clear water and had some good results.

Water is low but very cold, thank goodness. Couple of fish picked up in this run.

The beetles have hit and killed a lot of trees up there. Tough to get good photos of the impact. Here's a decent shot from the road. It's really pretty country up there.

Nice those little cricks are special. Don't want to hijack your thread but here's a picture of what it looks like down my way at about 4000'; between the drought and the beetles there's a disaster waiting to happen:

No sweat, the forest changed quite a bit as elevation dropped, it was obvious.

Looked to fish below the dam, but bailed after seeing the water and feeling the temps. Decent walk though, looking forward to next spring.

Early morning, had to jump down maybe four feet to get into position and the stinging from being cold hit hard. It sucked at first, then was really funny...late July and and my feet were freaking frozen. Two hours later, I went crequa-style in the river to cool off!
