Surveys run through June. They should have the data by now. I don't know if there is a number that they feel comfortable publishing yet.
Contact your area fisheries Bio. I do know that the numbers were generally up. They really could not have gone down.
WDFW web site will get you to the bio your looking for.

Hey Charles--that's really nice of you. I would like to hear about the Skagit, Sauk and Samish.

It would be great if WDFW just posts them. I think it would help people better understand the context for openings and closures as right now I think alot of us are either "dumb and happy" or more often the case "dumb and mad".

Thanks.

from WDFW officers, and the sci techs that count the steelhead redds on the rivers.I used to be employeed as a sci tech for WDFW, and used to do the salmon counts on the Samish, and still know who's in charge of Whatcom couny/samish river. They closed all rivers early this year, as Im sure we all know, and last I spoke to anyone about it a month after the rivers were closed they were still far off from their escapement goals in the Skagit system

stilly stalker,

Thnanks for the info. I am not trying to dismiss your information but the river was closed mid February and if the counts you refer to were only up to date a month later the main thrust of the Skagit/Sauk steelhead run had not even occured yet. I am still curious as to what they think the run numbers were for the entire spring season.

Kerry,

I saw Brett last Friday. He said it was looking good into early May, and then the numbers just fell flat. Consequently the escapement estimate will likely be less than the goal of 6,000. SCL had good counts upstream of Marblemount, which is not a real good sign relative to the other river reaches.
