Those toothy bastards have decimated my crappie fishing right here in downtown Ione. A few years ago whenever I went out in the evening from the launch at the city park I could expect to come home with enough big crappies for a decent fish fry the next day. Then they started to dry up and the last two times out I didn't get a one. Then a kid casting from the dock caught something like a 23# pike and the lights went on. My crappies were building big pike.

The tribe has netted a helluva lot of them in the river and the sloughs where they spawn. Naturally the bubbas that were making a living guiding pike cried foul over their loss of income.

Why is there not a bounty on these creatures? Making it worthwhile to take them out of the system seems like it would be a good investment and increase awareness of the harm they do.

The tribes have already netted a 20# female this year
I was talking to a guy from tribal F&G last night. They have netted one nearly forty pounds this week, and they are starting a bounty. The tribe has allocated 10,000 for the bounty until it runs out. You can bring your fish to Tribal Trails Noisy Waters at Barney's Junction right there to collect bounties. I forgot how much he said you get per fish.

I'll be spending a long weekend on May 27th at a friends place about 5 miles north of Kettle Falls, right near the east shore of Lake Roosevelt. Do I need a Colville Tribal permit to fish the east shoreline? The heaviest gear I have is an 8wt rod with 8WF and sink tip lines. Will this work for pike? I also have medium weight conventional steelhead gear and rods.

8 wt is plenty. Spring time they are very shallow, sunning and eating baitfish. Conventional gear works great also. Smelt is killer if nothing is working. But usually they are aggressive in the spring. Big streamers, as big as you can cast, preferably 8 inches or longer. All colors. Big spoons, as big as your gear can cast or big spin baits. I love pike fishing. It is my favorite. Good luck everyone! You wont wipe them out, they are to resilient and will keep working thier way down stream. But you will have so much fun trying that you might forget they are the enemy!

Pretty sure you do need a tribal permit there. 8 wt would cover pike up to 10 pounds adequately. For big flies, you'd want something bigger
