sorry guys, every other thread on here is someone needin help and i feel pretty lame askin but i see no other alternative.

im lookin for advice from those that swing flies with this stick (10' 10" 8wt echo switch). i need a compact skagit for throwin tips and leeches. i was recommended the 480, fished the 450 with 8 feet of t-8 and a leech and it felt heavy. i had to choke up on the head like 5 feet to get it to pick up. which when i did, it fished.

bear in mind im completely novice with spey castin. i would get out and try lines like im sure you'll recommend but it aint happenin this week and im tryin to get closer to fishin this weekend without borrowin lines. i know a lot of you guys have this rod, just wonderin what you've found to work. thanks dudes.

Rajeff's recommendation for a Compact skaj head on that rod is 510. Since we know nothing about your casting style/ability it is pretty hard to recommend a head weight that will make you cast like a jedi, so trying some different head weights is the only way to get dialed in with the best matchup. There just isn't any shortcut to this deal, you just need to take the time to find out what head weight you, your casting ability, and your rod like.

With the above being said since you had to choke up on the 450 then it would seem the 420 might be a better match. If you can't borrow one over there I will send you one to try out. You can have it by this weekend.
