I read "elimination of chumming" and panicked for a second thinking this would turn tuna fishing into a troll-only fishery (booorinnng). Offshore it's kind of a necessity, but to allow chumming for trout?!!! And C&R with bait?!!! Are they kidding? Dead trout will be floating on every lake where bait fishing is allowing. Why not skip the whole fishing process and dispense trout from the stocking truck directly into peoples coolers .

Comments submitted. Wonderful we are trying to dumb down fishing rather than nurture the popularity of quality angling. I mean at what point do you admit in your adult life that you bait fish fit trout? I'm all for bait allowed for individuals under 16. Once you can drive you gotta learn to fish a lure or fly, sorry. Then chum? Seriously? Who does this?

What a fucking ludicrous set of proposals. What possible benefit could there be? Does the WDFW think it will earn them more revenue? They certainly can't believe it's good for nature. They certainly can't think it will benefit the fluvial ESA-listed species in this state that will 100% undoubtedly be harmed by these practices should they be approved.

Fucking mind-boggling. When do we get to keelhaul these losers?

Even more depressing will be when we learn the cost of the numerous offsite brainstorming meetings, led by over paid consultants. To me, this simply says that WDFW has decided anadromous fisheries are too much of a PITA and have decided to now focus on improving put and take fisheries... oh great.

That is where most of their revenue from license sales is generated.

Submitted. I also commented on other proposals as well. Some of these are interesting as they apply to license sales and increased opportunities. Changing some of the opening dates will decrease license sales for those people who just fish those opening days and the bait fishing regulation will ultimately decrease opportunities for others to fish. Very short sighted.

Ludicrous! Is WDFW position of voting on a unlimited c&r fishery, when using a barbed hook and bait, during a 24 hour period intended for the purpose of presenting a even playing field with a single point Barbless C&R fishery?

Isn't there a "no waste" law in affect that would conflict with a potential unlimited C&R while bait fishing, with barbed hook practice?

Thanks all who are commenting! These proposals are a big step backwards. When we have the proportion of "bait ban" lakes that BC does we will be moved in the right direction! Chumming has traditionally been allowed in large lakes that are kokanee fisheries. To allow it in all lakes is ridiculous. Would this regulation mean that I could drop down a few cans of tuna packed in oil in Dry Falls Lake, come back the next morning and cast my balanced leech (soaked in shrimp scent) into my chum slick?

Before this important thread gets stuck in a quagmire of nastiness, I ask this question: How many of us actually write letters to public officials anymore? Perhaps a few short letters written to say: WDFW Commissioners (here's a link with their names and their joint mailing address: http://wdfw.wa.gov/commission/members.html).

I don't know if snail mail, a real letter, has any more significance than an email. It can't hurt. What the heck, use both. Flood the Commissioners with your comments. Here's their email: [email protected]
and here's their snail mail:
Fish and Wildlife Commission
600 Capitol Way North
Olympia, WA 98501-1091

a phone number: (360) 902-2267

I will post a snail mail to the Commission today.
