A burger and slab of pie at Bogan's Oasis is always a treat after pounding the Ronde.

I see in last week's Tribune it's for sale. I was afraid that would happen after the fire and rebuild. That had to have taken a huge toll on the owners.

Colter's Creek Winery in Juliaetta, ID has really great food and six beers on tap if you don't want wine. I recommend anything on the menu, all made from scratch. It's about eight miles north of the HW 12 bridge over the Clearwater, on HW 3.

Many of these gems' culinary excellence really depends upon how long ago the stuff they're feeding you was delivered.

Old stuff, if you ain't a local (who knows better than to order that tuna salad on Thursday), won't generate the drizzle shits until you're two days (and two hundred miles away), and blaming your kids' daycare.

Rural folk revenge...sad...but effective, and it's all they've got (other than opioids).

Is Lessie’s southern kitchen in tacoma still open. Used to really like that place.

Porters bbq in Richland and Kennewick. Lone pine cafe in Baker City.

Does anyone else here remember eating at Manleys outside of Boise? It was my favorite back when I was on the road in the late 70’s. You would buy meatloaf or roast beef and they brought the whole loaf! Pie was a buck for a quarter of a pie.

Would $4 (adjusted for inflation) for that quarter of pie be amazing today?

Some of our best shut down, but for a little town with tons of fishing options, we still have some decent food. The local Chinese place is ok. Used to be better before the kids took over. The local Mexican place is pretty comparable to any other good one I've ate at. Fusion Cafe is amazing, reminiscint of Klinkendaggars(sic). The casino is good, but long wait. The R&A cafe is great food for reasonable price.
If you ever fish Omak lake, I highly recommend The Breadline, The Livestock cafe, or McGoos.

Now we are talking good places to eat from the past. Used to hit the Chicken Coop in Lynnwood after a night of drinking beer at the Lynnwood Tavern. Or the Pine cone. They were some good dives. I don't think any of those old hang outs are still with us.. The Hand Out was a little shack along Highway 99 north of Lynnwood. Best Hamburgers I ever ate. They took one order at a time. Put their all in it. They closed down the shack and built a better place but the food went to hell after all of that.

Here's one that is a hidden gem and totally trippy experience you won't forget. One of my fishing buddies turned us onto this on the way back from looking for steelies on the Sauk. In Oso...in a huge horse ranch...in a huge horse rink.....great food if you don't mind a little horse barny smell to go with your dinner.....cra-aaazy: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-restaurant-at-rhodes-river-ranch-arlington.

If near Wenatchee, this is a great place to stop for a great brew selection and well done healthy eats at decent prices. https://www.yelp.com/biz/mcglinns-public-house-wenatchee.

I'll give another shout out to Owens in Cle Elum. Their jalapeno/cheddar pepperoni sticks, beef jerky and landjaeger are great road & boat snacks. Also, if you're into really great quality meats and can splurge a bit, you will appreciate their steaks. We've gotten their locally raised ribeyes and have found them as one of the best steaks we've ever had. And we've had some great "local" steaks from Babb, Montana to Klamath, Oregon and beyond.

Thumbs up on the day-long chicken fried steak breakfast gut bomb at the Palace Cafe in Ellensburg. Then Jalisco for din din.

Mmmmmhhh....must go stuff face, mmmhhhh......

I like this post. Whenever I was on the road, I was always looking for small restaurants, especially if they advertised a special burger.
In the spirit of this thing, I had a special discovery one time after fishing Silver Creek. I stopped at the small restaurant in the tiny town of Fairfield. When it came to the soup/salad, I ordered the soup and was brought the finest bowl of clam chowder I have ever eaten in my life. It looked like no other, tan with brown speckles which leads me to believe it was made with whole wheat flour. After a long day of hiking and fishing, well, it was almost better than sex. I can't even remember what the entrèe was!
Furthermore, I love a waitress that calls me Hon.
