I was finally able to break an afternoon away and decided to hit Lone Lake. After the fish die-off last year, I have wanted to see how the lake is recovering. I got on the lake around 1:00 in the afternoon right as the sun was breaking free from the clouds. No one else was on the lake.
First fish was a 17" rainbow about 40 minutes into fishing. That was a sign of the day. I averaged about 1 fish per half an hour for the next 3.5 hours. All were in the 15-17" range. They were nicely fat and healthy. It's not lights out fishing but really good to see how it is recovering.
I fished a variety of offerings with a bloodworm being the most effective. Nothing seemed to be hot though. Slight dun hatch off and on but not heavy and not a lot of fish activity up top. Algae wasn't really a problem.
I had the chance to talk briefly with the owner of the really nice house right off the point. A very nice woman. Every time I am on that lake I can't help but envy that house and property.
Hats off to the fly clubs for their work in rehabilitating the lake. Well done.
