Kind of like when the Boeing workers went on strike last year when they had great jobs with great bennies. Shortly after that, the announcement was made to move a line to North Carolina! Not a lot of long term thinking here! Rick

If you really believe we make 100k got right ahead. I woun't be bitching. we are far from it. Even with the Benefits. 100k sounds great if I made that much. I wish. Don't believe everything you hear, especially in the media.

Any union that strikes in this economy has lost their perspective on what unions are supposed to be about. A long time ago in history unions were successful in improving working conditions, safety and fair wages. Is that what the objective is now? I'm all for more fishing time, but I bet that a lot of the local unemployed fisherman might be willing to trade you places. I can guarantee you that guys in my line of work get paid a whole hell of a lot less than guys in your line of work. This, I know, is fact, not made up for quality interweb conversation. Good luck fishing.

Let me get this straight: Worst economy in decades, high unemployment and yet garbage collectors are threatening to strike because they are not satisfied with $100K+ compensation packages?
In all fairness it's the teamster reps that make the call, and unfortunately for teamsters their contract is up on a shit year.

Best of luck Caveman, enjoy the time off if you get it!...and do me a favor when you get back, tell your pals that work Beacon hill that they could do a better job of actually getting the trash in the truck and not all over the street. Ever since the contract change to WM (and Cleanscapes for that matter) I have to pick up litter off my street on garbage day. When all the work was done by Rabanco I had no problems at all..

I had to bust my ass in college, got a job that got me thru life, retired. I still have to pinch my pennies. Then I go down to the frigging lawn mower repair man that wants $75 an hour to fix a goddam lawnmower.... and then there's the car repair business at around a $100 per hour.... I'll stop now... except I'll end by saying it irritates me to get "ripped off". But stay in college kids!!

I was a Teamster for a while. They have no balls and will not strike. They just need to put on a show so they can justify taking their cut off of the hardworking guys they leach off of. These people..scratch that... vermon are nothing but clown shoe cons.

"Sorry guys, we tried to get you a raise, don't forget to pay your monthly dues."

Loda sheit if you ask me.

Why pick on the garbage men. Here in Montana they work a 5 day week. If a holiday falls into that week so be it. They have to work to keep the garbage picked up. My hats off to them.

Plus, if you take your own garbage to the dump here you don't pay thru the nose to dump it. The land fill here in SW Montana is free. That's something you won't find in Washington.

There is more behind the scenes than all you see. It's not about the money. Wm brought in 500 people in the Oakland strike and couldn't get it done for 250 thousand customers. We have a million here. You all will be appreciating us when all the garbage starts to pile up. Thanks for the support Old man. We need the public to understand that Wm made 12 billion last year and they want to cut wages and benies.
