I see that the weekend catch estimates for the weekend catch of Chinook in MA 9 & 10 are posted on WDFW's web site

http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/reports_plants.html

Through the weekend approximately 29.5% of the MA 9 quota and 7.6% of MA 19 quota were caught!

Good deal. I will be out there again soon.

Very pleased that the MA-19 quota is below 10% still

Dimebrite -
As you know the Chinook catch in MA 10 typically picks up sometime next week so I would expect that the fishery in MA 10 should be in good shape until MA 9 closes (later part of July?) then with the divert effort the MA 10 catches will soar. Finger crossed that you maybe able to fish through the first week of August.

So, just to confirm, catch and release salmon fishing for any salmon species closes when they close the Chinook fishery in each MA? Just wanted to be sure.
I've got both my fingers crossed as that first week of Aug will be my only shot!
I'll be low holing you guys while in area 11. plan to go Sunday evening. king fishery typically peaks by early/mid-August. sound like most fish being caught are on the smaller size.
Well, on our boat ride Thursday my buddy and I certainly didn't add to that 7.6% figure for MA10!

We left the fly gear at home and were mooching herring. Tried a number of areas with no luck outside a few little 8 to 12-inch followers as we got close to the surface.

Saw very little evidence of bait around.

OTOH, for those fans of the Squalus family of fishes (http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/forum/threads/any-dogfish-caught-recently-in-puget-sound.119029/), we did find a few spots where they were plentiful! ;)

It seems to have slowed down in the last few days. We took a boat ride in 9 yesterday. Two decent fish on but both lost.

However, we did land a new state record!

What was that?

I was able to fish off Vashon for the evening. Started off strong with shakers taking the hoochie/squid combo. 3 small shakers right off the bat and then it just flat lined for the rest of the evening. Oh well, I did not have high expectations and all my gear worked - so that was a win.

Saturday morning, not on the fly. Radar shows a few close friends fishing nearby.

I wonder of all those boats were surrounding you before you started hooking up your chinook? Nice work!

Matt,
Likely for MA 9. Hoping to fish it at least through Sunday.
Then effort will shift to MA 10 and we'll likely get another week there before things are done for the summer salmon wise.

The last couple days it looks like in MA 9 both catch rates and effort is down some. Would not be surprised to the fishery to last through the weekend.

On the down side while MA 10 has not been as good as MA 9 the fishing has improved in a couple area. In addition it is the norm to see an upswing in Chinook catch rates in the last week of July/early August so could burn through the 10 quota fairly quickly once 9 closes.
