The Drake is the best printed FF magazine out there. I recieved Fly Fisherman as a gift last year. I didn't think it was worth reading and definitely wouldn't pay for it myself.

Subscribe to several, in the main, Fly Tyer, Fly Fisherman and American Angler are 'expensive,' but good 'bathroom reads.' You're not "going anywhere" for a few minutes ... so you might learn something.

The Drake and Fly Fusion are my favorite printed mag's! There are some good online mag's too, This is Fly and The Catch! I pick up an occasional mag, but don't subscribe to anything anymore.. got boxes of old mag's if I need a fix!

Had Northwest fly fishing, fly fisherman, and fly rod and reel for the last few years but I dumped all except for Northwest fly fishing(great for local rivers) and the Drake. I agree with the above comments that the Drake is the best mag around....especially with the page six girls.

I get a few magazines but I feel like I am paying for a whore. A whore writer who will sell out any location for a profit. I am finding I like tying magazines more to think about what I want to try on the rivers that I have learned on my own.

I subscribe to two. Fly Tyer and Flyfishing and Tying Journal. Used to get Northwest Fly Fishing but let it lapse and don't miss it.

the drake is definitely the best, but they dont have any type of fly tying, which just bothers me. The regional "fly fishing series," NW SW... they are nice although I question them writing about locations that dont need to be put into publication. I dont think there is a truly great fly fishing magazine currently, sorry. Fly tyer is good, but they simply have the same genre of flies every single issue. booorrrrriiinnnngggg. The best use these mags have is something to read while on the john at your local fly shop.

Dan, you sound a little down. No good magazines and bad fly shops. What's gonna take to get your mood up! 10 lbs brown? 3 steelface day?
I'm just making fun. ;)

I enjoy Fly fishing and tying journal and the articles by Les were alays good and Preston and Dave hughes and Dave Whitlock and Ed Engle and many others. I go to back issues often and have many of Amatos published books by local or west coast authors that are quite enjoyable. Reasonably priced so I dropped other subscriptions cause I don'twant to read my life away it's going too fast now. Happy fishing.

I hit Northwest Fly Fishing, and Flyfishing and tying Journal, but the last time I picked up a copy of Fly Fisherman, it seemed to only contain exhortations for the "activists" to go and "save" something, interspersed with snooty East coast and Patagonia stuff. Haven't seen a copy of the Drake, but I guess I need to be on the lookout, though!
