So I bought the mark petitjean magic tool and I'm just starting to practice with it and can see how it will help tie certain patterns. No comprehensive written instructions came with it so I watched some youtube videos which helps. But in no instance is there any instruction as to the purpose and use of the little wooden dowels that come it. There is a small picture of some material being wrapped around a dowel and apparently being cut with scissors but I haven't figured out the next steps. Can anyone give me an explanation on this part of the tool's use. I would appreciate some education. Thanks in advance.

I haven't used those (yet) but they facilitate converting long strands of flashabou, crystal flash, etc. into dubbing material. Wrap said strands around the appropriate dowel (dowel size determines overall length after cut), run knife/razor over the wrapped material & then insert in the clamp. The "insert in the clamp" part looks like that could be a royal pain. Maybe I'll have to try it some day. Using long cactus-type chenille serves my purposes at present. Good luck! if you figure-out a reasonably easy way to insert this stuff into a clip be sure to let us know.

Thankyou Scott! I have bookmarked that link. It's the kind of info I needed plus gives me some new ideas. I have to watch grandkids today. Spring break. So I'll turn on a tv for them and sit at the vise. Practice, practice, practice.

This technique sure seems like the long way around as opposed to just sniping the crystal flash into short pieces and blending into the dubbing then distributing into the dubbing loop. All done with the magic of scissors and fingers.

Or am I missing something?
