Hey guys, this forum has been very informative for me up to this point so i figured it would be worth a shot to ask. myself and a friend are planning to hike up to Manastash lake this week with our flyrods. I have been to lost lake (near manastash) and it didnt have much area to cast from shore. Is Manastash the same way or is there any openings along the shoreline. I dont really want to pack my pontoon up that hike, and i dont have a float tube. Really hoping to hook into some little ones on the dry flies (or big ones). Strictly catch and release....

Hopefully one of you folks will have some info for me.

I haven't been into Manastash in a lot of years, but as I recall there really isn't a lot of back casting room along the shore anywhere around the lake. I remember being frustrated about it when I was in there.

You could probably roll cast far enough to catch fish, but a float tube it going to be a HUGE help if you can borrow one or find a decent used one on craigslist. Being out in the middle will definately amplify your experience.

I thought you could drive to Manastash Lk. or real close. Last summer, when flying over, I think I remember seeing vehicles there. What other lake might I have seen?

There are alot of trees and you pretty much have to roll cast. If you can't bring a float tube, then you could always float around on your thermarest; the water should be warm enough by now. 4x4s can drive to the top ridge and have a short hike down. There used to be some good brookies in there but the 4x4 easy access results in a lot of catch & kill and trash.
