I would have gone also. Poor choice of venues.

Any news on a possible opening of the river or if there's a chance it remains closed permanently?
Sorry, I was at the Rendezvous, but didn't go to McMillan's presentation, and I have no idea if he addressed that question...... or if it came up...... and you'd think it was asked......

FWIW, in the last 2-3 years, whenever I've asked that question of someone you'd think might know something (TU staff on the Peninsula, WDFW Bio's, seemingly "connected" locals and the like), shrugged shoulders and "Who knows" is about all I've ever received for an answer...... Someone here (a tough, rugged, steelheader) probably knows something, but me.... not a clue....

I think a hiking only area for a while would be okay Let the river have some fishing peace for a time. Let the salmon and steelhead have peace for a while. Or at least peace from humans.
Great idea. Some of that water in and above Rica Canyon, up to those deep, deep pools at Goblins Gate and then up to the Humes Ranch are just mesmerizingly (I think that's a word..) beautiful. Worth a hike just to look at the water. Especially worth it when those big guys show up in August. Sublime...
