Do any of you frequent or know of a forum similar to this one dedicated to Montana? I've found some general ones, but nothing that comes close to WFF (not that anything could match it Chris ;) )

Thanks,
Jeff

There use to be "Montana fly fishing News"
Myself and others here were member of that site.
Why it got shut down ?
I would say if you have a MT ?
Just ask it here and those MT members will or will not respond.
Happy fishing

Well Jeff, would you like me to put something together for MFF?
Heheh, yeah! You should get on that ASAP Chris! After all the changes that came about on this site last year it seems you've been slacking off a bit. ;) In all seriousness though, a site similar to this focused on Montana would be great. My wife and I are moving over to Missoula in a few months, so I'm a bit biased.

I suppose Gary has the right idea though, I'll just chime in with reports on MT.

Jeff, if there are more shops, reports, river data and such available from sources you know in MT why not bring them here by way of asking to have them added to the CONTENT area? Chris has really been building that area up and including lots of places and information sources from outside of WA. There have been a lot of remarkable contributions by the MT contingent here, information galore...and for me the fly tier who tied the fly that got my steelhead on the fly cherry popped. ed

That's a good idea Ed. I don't have any pertinent info to pass along right now, thus the wanting to "surf" a Montana based forum. I've fished MT a lot, but am by no means an authority on shops, river data, etc, on the area... Not even close. I hope that changes over the next few years, once I get over there! :).

WFF is such a great resource for Washington fly fishers. The salt section, general fly fishing, fly tying (though fly tying is pretty applicable across state lines, as long as we're not talking salt), etc, are killer. I'm just wondering if anyone has run across something similar for Montana. If not, no worries. I'll do it the old-fashioned way by talking with fly shops and just fishing.

-- edit --

Ed, I had never clicked on the content section. That would be a great place to get all of the local shops, river flow data, reports, etc, compiled. When I get over there I'll start compiling that data, for my own personal benefit, and pass that info along to Chris so he can add as he sees fit.

Now, I wonder if we could roll out a sub-forum for MT fly fishing. It seems a lot of folks on WFF head to MT (and ID for that matter) to fish. I'm not sure I'd be as interested in posting reports for the Blackfoot, Bitterroot, Beaverhead, Rock Creek, etc on the WFF general fishing board... don't you think you guys might get sick of posts that don't have direct bearing. It is a WASHINGTON board after all. I can, however, also see how it could become "too much", if WFF started trying to include out-of-state sub forums on a Washington site.

Most forums of which I am aware are the same as they were when I left . . . local shops, leaning against a truck fender somewhere, or in a local watering hole . . . sounds like this is a great idea. I have enough nephews back there that I should be able to provide SW MT input that should be reasonably accurate. they all owe me . . . I taught them how to tie & fly fish . . .

Jeff, was thinking a bit bigger than simply putting up some subforum for MT under WFF.
So I take it your first response about an MFF site was no joke, and I think that's just excellent! Montana doesn't have the population of Washington, but sure does have huge numbers of local and out of state fisherman that come through.

It also makes sense to spin it off to avoid confusion and keep things clean. WFF is a tight ship and I have no doubt that a MFF site would be, too.

Here's a couple of links that have MT discussions:

http://www.west-fly-fishing.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm

http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/Montana_Fishing_Forum_C37/Montana_Fishing_General_F40/

Westfly is primarily an OR site and bigfishtackle has a lot of gear dude influence.

.......but, no forum that I have found compares to the quality here. The site is well designed in terms of usability and has wide, consistent participation. For example, I travel a lot and am sitting in a bar in Dallas typing this post. This forum gets me through the hell of not being home (i.e., not in the NW). I know folks in Europe tune in, and many of our brothers in the desert (fighting the good fight) help stay grounded through this forum. The recent posts on the Wenaha salmon targeting conundrum was just darn good entertainment. Hell, I even learned that Blue Moon now comes in cans-- thank god! With that said, great job Chris, keep it going!!! A MT branch in this forum would be good, but then where does it end....OR, BC, ID, N CA branches?

There was a site called "Montana Fly Fishing News" and it was started out from a member from this site. I don't hear from him anymore and the site just died. I have a decal from the site on the back window of my pick-me-up and I also got a hat from him.

He had a good assortment of fly shops and good info on it, but it couldn't come up with very many members.

Oh also SB, Bite me.
