i had the chance to handle both the 10' 7 wt. biix alongside the 10' 7 wt. z axis. i liked the z axis better because it felt like it had a little more backbone, as the area which i fish for steelhead is prone to some tough winds. in reading reviews and watching a video with a winston rep. casting the biiix, from this guy's description it seems like this biiix is going to have a little more backbone to it. seems like this will be good competition to the z axis. competition between sage and winston will always be healthy for us nuts.

Did you fish the IIx? Just holding it gave me the same impression. Then I fished it and it made me a believer! I've put several steelies in the mid teens on the bank, along with a 28 lb salmon (8wt). Plenty of backbone when you need it.
Also has great "feel" or action for smaller fish around 12" - like I was fishing my 4 wt, go figure.

I wonder what the difference will be between the IIIx and the MX.

The main gripe people have about the B2X is a too-soft tip for some applications. Just a guess: I'll bet they make the B3T taper less tippy and more progressive while keeping the overall flex about the same in order to stay slotted between the B2MX and B2T. There will be claims of new material advances, but the taper tweak will be the main thing.

I own the biix 4wt and owned the biix 5wt. Not at all tippy, great feeling rods. The 8'6" 4wt is the nicest trout rod I have fished. I also have a biix 6wt, I do not fish as often but I can see how someone would describe it as tippy. Performance wise does not effect it. Also wondering what the difference will be between the biix, biix and the biimx? Bigger, better, faster, something new to sell.

OMJ,

Dude, I would encourage you to buy new stuff, it's fun, exciting, great to look at and I can assure you that if you do (God forbid) go to the big river up above ( I'm sure they have loaners up there-cause you know you can't take it with you) and again I assure you that I will give your new stuff a great home. Always remember OM I'm there for ya and all your gear to of course. Just think of me as the son, no the g/son, were damn the same age so just think of me as the best brother you never had, who loves ya baby?
