Spawning requires a lot more than moving water. You need just the right movement, neither too fast nor too slow. The dissolved oxygen must be sufficient. Protection from predation, birds, man, other fish, everything that eats. The gravel must be perfect, from about a cherry up to a grapefruit with a melon or two mixed in, no silt or mud. Sand won't work. Current should be steady, no quick drops in volume or speed, no flooding either. And on and on...
Rocky Ford just can't hang. Very few areas can. And that's why they are so precious.
