Don and I took a trip up to Winthrop yesterday, looking for grouse. We stopped in at Gardiner Mt. Inn to ask about some spots, and the young man who owns the place-as well as the fly shop-was great! He gave us a spot which was super grouse habitat, and warned us that it has been hunted hard. We flushed two, no shots. However, we came upon four deer that had been poached, backstraps cut out, and horns taken. The carcasses were simply dumped off the side of the dirt road in some bushes. I contacted fish&game so they're aware it's going on in that area.

Bummer Alex. I hate to see that.

I used to do a lot of backcountry hiking up in N. NV and used to admire the big herds of Elk. Pretty soon I noticed some nefarious looking hunters frequenting the area as well. I could just tell these guys were up to no good.

The last time I went out there I saw nearly a half dozen butched elk carcasses hanging from a tree - multiple cows. Practically gave me nightmares seeing such a waste of wildlife. I am ALL for responsible hunting, but it was plainly obvious that these guys were just taking the prime cuts and leaving the rest to rot.

I reported it to the wilderness office, but they barely skipped a breath. Totally disheartening.
