It's a boy!

Last week my wife impressed me to all ends of the world by delivering a baby. All 7+ lbs of him. Truman Patrick is alert and absolutely the cutest kid ever, no bias of course. And what a great life he has so far; all he has to do is sleep and suck on boobs.

Luckily my wife wants me to take him fishing this summer during my time off from teaching. She knows that my mental health benefits greatly from time spent pursuing my outdoor passions and she wants us to instill that in our little dude early. I'm thinking one of our chest/back slings on the beaches. If anyone (with experience doing that) has advice or things to keep in mind, send it my way.

Here's to all the women who have done that amazing thing called labor, wow. :beer1:

Jason, biggest congratulations my friend. I hope that all three of you get rest and enjoy your journey.
Congrats. When my first daughter was about 1 year old my wife came home and found that I had securely fastened the car seat to the back of my Southfork pontoon. I thought the time and care that I had taken to secure and balance it was admirable, my wife didn't quite agree. I will say though that I have many pictures of wading the Joe with her in a Kelty backpack. Put some sunscreen on and the backpack came with a sun-shield, and it worked great.
To this day she loves to go with me. Expose them early, and as long as they enjoy it, I think it is well worth it.
Congrats again.

Congrats Jason, and welcome to sleepless nights.
Welcome to daddyhood! Congrats!
Jason
Congratulations to you and the mrs Jason!
A 7 pounder, huh?
Definitely a "keeper"....:)
Awesome and congratulations to you and your wife!

I hit the beach with both my kids - first in front pack, then on my back. Best fishing was early in their life because they would sleep and not pull on glasses or whatnot.

Bring clean diapers, baby sunscreen and whatever it is they drink to extend the trip another hour!

Also - set your sights low and you'll be in the right frame of mind if things don't go as planned.

enjoy
Congratulations to you and your wife Jason! Excellent! I think packing him up would be great in the outdoors. You are gonna have great times ahead. Little boys are so kool....!
Watch the windy days and always use barbless hooks. You think it hurts when that clouser hits YOU in the back of the head????
Getting Truman out there in the fresh air and on the water is the important and most satisfying part of it all. A fish...a bonus!
My recommendation is to go for short excursion where you don't have to pack much. Hit your "rock" for an hour and call it good. Kids add a lot to the preparation.
Congrats. I too fished with my kids. You'll get by. :)
Congrats Jason! This all seems to be good advice. I have a boy on the way at the end of march. I've been thinking a lot about how I can instill the water/fishy vibe early. Thoughts of the kid in the backpack and such is good to know it's happened and been successful. I've also thought about the aluminum boat in the lake, just to get something on the other end of the line.

iagree

Maybe even a bulletproof (hookproof!) plexiglass cocoon around him.....:clown:! Of course you're probably a better caster than me :hmmm:!

Congratulations!

All the best. You're going to love being a dad.
