We've been thinking about adding a dog to our family for the last couple of months and have been exploring options and local shelters. On a whim we decided to go on a road trip north and see what was available and came across 'Bonnylee' -- a 1.5 year old shelter lab/retriever mix that was a stray. She's great around the kids, and already knows a couple of key obedience commands. Great addition to the family and I can't help but wonder how she'll be out on the river.

Nice looking dog! Gotta love labs. Hope you have many great years with her. My 14 year old black lab female is the perfect fishing companion.... she just finds a comfy spot on the bank and takes a nap while I fish. I usually have to wake her up to change spots...

When my lab was a pup until she was about 3 years old... every year on opening day of ducks out in the skagit bay she'd range out past my sight and roll in a rotting silver.... ughhhh. Nothing like getting home after a hard grind in the marsh with a stringer full of birds to clean and a dog to give a tomato juice bath. Come to think of it, I didn't smell that good either after those hunts.

The way dogs roll around in dead sh*t is classic though. They look like they just won the lottery and they're rolling around in cash or something...

Living in Idaho, I don't often go after salmon....I mean I *could* technically go after Chinook in July on the Salmon River near Stanley, but at that time of year I'm far more interested in places like the Henry's Fork. I guess what I'm trying to say is thanks for the reminder about salmon carcasses (I had forgotten), but I don't think that will be a problem for me.
