There are a lot more griz in northern Washington than people (USDFW) think.
I worked in Northern Idaho in an area that had just transplanted three yearling griz.
We lived with those bears all summer and only had one close encounter that was kinda unfriendly.
O'ya, griz don't like the smell of a chainsaw junkie.

I have heard reports of a Griz in the Mt Rainier area. Fairly authoritative source. He knew what a cinnimon bear was, and he said definitively, it was a Griz. He described the face, shoulders and size as the factors he used for his ID. So he wasn't clueless.

It's been established fact that the Selkirks of Washington and Idaho have grizzly bear. Over twenty years ago there was a grizzly killed about thirty miles from Newport. We were living there at the time and the hunters were prosecuted. So we know that Grizzlies have been in the Selkirks of Washington and N. Idaho for sometime. The Pasayten Wilderness and North Cascade National Park more than likely hold Grizzly Bears. Rainier National Park, is a questionable call but all things are possible.

Awesome critters! I've been fortunate to have seen many (occasionally from a bit too close to be "comfy"), but the only hairy situation I ever experienced was with a black bear. Moose on the other hand . . . don't like 'em, and don't trust 'em . . . had a variety of tense encounters with them.

I was seriously suspicious of the claim myself, but the dude knew how to tell the difference. Also, it was in the Rainier area, not the park itself.
