Needing something close to this size, I'll be using it for reinforcement on my transom. Not sure if it really matters if its 5052 or non-5052 to resist saltwater corrosion.

Oh yeah, cheap is good! :thumb:

I can get something similar to this new for 45.00 in Lakewood but hoping someone has some laying around..

Peter, call the salvage yard in Gorst. They have lots of stuff like that and you might get lucky. ed

If your talking about Columbia or navy metals, they do not have 1/4 or 1/2" aluminum. There's a confirmed place in Lakewood but trying not to spend $45+. Someone has to have some kind of scrap somewhere?

Too bad Boeing Surplus is no longer. I used to get tons of Aluminum stock and sheet for pennies! If you can go thicker, the mill for Exotic Woods in Kent is up in the Bremerton area I believe. You can get some ironwood or greenheart. Both are fantastic for marine usage and amazingly strong.

Depending what he needs to do Marine Grade plywood is very strong.

Most metal shops have bins of left over pieces. I just bought a piece of scrap aluminum diamond plate from my local metal and pipe store to use as a step for my camper. They went out and measured my step bumper, cut a thick piece of scrap to fit, and ground the sharp edges down. Cost me 8 bucks. If you can't find a good metal store in all of Puget Sound, I know one in Wenatchee!

That price in Lakewood is close to the best you'll find. I called a fiend of mine at Metal Shorts in Seattle and for 6061-T6, cut to your dimension, sells for $47.80. I think your OK with the 5052 and the 6061 is even better.

Funny you mentioned it Larry cause I was there after work yesterday! Think I'll never go there again, reminded me of the Star Lite Swap meet but worse. Actually the Starlite swap meet IS better, more junk to go through and better quality junk if that makes any sense.

I found a 1/4" x 20" x 7" 5052 Aluminum from a guy on Ebay for 25.00 including shipping, should have it in a couple days.

Oh and FYI, my silver Toyota Camry died on me from work on the big turn in Gorst in rush hour, had it towed to my house 165.00. My cousin says its the timing belt and should be fixed by this weekend, UGH!!!
