After retiring from the military, I can finally devote the time to a dog that it deserves. So, I put a deposit down on a Welsh Terrier tonight; my first dog since I ran away and joined the Navy twenty years ago. The little guy will be going home with me mid June. I can't say how stoked I am to have a dog! I think his name's gonna be Shackleton, called Shack for short.

Coagulations, there is nothing like having a new puppy running around the house, building that buddy relationship. Taking them in for a ride in the truck and watching them get all hyped up. Nothing puts a smile on my face faster than spending time with my dogs. That is awesome.

O'ya what fun!!!
Chewed up, what ever, anything and everything.
Wet spots on the carpet, shit spots on carpet.
Holes dug in the flower beds.
The fun never ends.
Congrats, and remember there are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners.

Thanks for all the well wishes and good advice! I've been reading and studying about dogs, dog psychology and training for several months, getting ready to take care of a pup. Plus questioning all my dog owning family and friends until they're tired of it. I think I have a pretty good handle on it; at the least I'm far from going into dog ownership "blind". I'm sure there'll be plenty to figure out along the way, but there's no way I'm going to bumble my way through and hope for the best. On top of that, y'all keep the advice coming!

Old Man, I agree entirely. Shackleton will go with me pretty much everywhere. I thought about leaving out the NFR stuff too. Mumbles probably would have whined though....

Oh Yeah....we have always had a fenced back yard and a doggie door for them to go in and out of the house. A dog that gets hit by a car. It's not the dogs fault, it's not the drivers fault....it's the owners fault (the bastard).

That rocks and I am stoked for you. I had two litter mates rotty/shepart mixes that I had for 13 years before they both passed a few years back. With kids, I have taken a bit of a break from pets, but we are now looking at a new pup too! I feel your enthusiasm. I was looking at a Welsh too, but i think we are shooting for a Boston Terrier. I don't know if she will be up for steelhead fishing, but stoked to have her along and joining be when she can.

Congrats! I have to wait until August. Thank you for serving our nation.
