A friend of mine shared this with me, so thought it might be good to share here. I think it is easy to "not worry" about some of these things until you see a few photos like this. I was reminded of a trip out to Shi Shi Beach where I saw a lot of plastic stuff from Japan rolling up on the beach. I do reuse my plastic bags as Salmo says also, but maybe it's time to get out the cloth bag! :)

Those cloth bags are handy for all kinds of stuff. We've got a half dozen or so and they get use all the time.

We still get a plastic bag from time to time, makes a great way to clean up somebody else's trash at the lake or stream, for instance. I've always got one behind the seat of my truck for just such instances.

Great post.

As a grocery bagger (don't you love first jobs?), I consider myself somewhat of an expert on the topic. Plastic bags are bad for just about everything except ease of bagging stuff. Luckily, at my workplace, we have a recycling area, which I am semi-proud to say, I usually have to empty at least twice per day. As mentioned, usually they don't get recycled as more bags, but more commonly artificial decking material. My workplace is also considering charging for plastic bags, we already offer small refunds for the use reusable bags.

As a final note, cloth bags totally suck from the point of view of a bagger. They are difficult to get stuff in the quickly. Not to say that I don't support them, I just hate them when I'm at work.
