Finally the wind guy decided to turn it down a couple notches for an afternoon, and naturally I had to get out and enjoy this small, small sliver of sunlight literally between two massive rain clouds.

I saw no fry moving and very few fish showing at the beach, but good tidal movement, so I felt good about it. I managed two nice chromed out bull trout, with all the action happening in 30 minutes. They sure are a hoot to hook in the saltwater.

As soon as the tide dropped and slowed down, the fish all shot off. I saw one more swirl but no love.

Then, I found out that right by the connection knot, my line coating had cracked 360 degrees, and the mono core showed signs of abrasions. I'm really beating a dead horse by saying this line has durability issues, as sad as I am to report them.

It was good to see a little sign of spring and finally get some salty tugs on the end of my line.

"right by the connection knot . . ."

Before I blamed the fly line, and Rio, etc., I would trim the line off, just above the cracked area a few inches, and set up a new "connection knot", and see if it happens again in the same relative location on the line.

I am just assuming that you mean the line to leader connection. (You don't specify here if this is the line to leader connection, or in a line to running line, or backing, connection, etc.)

Yep, I did that once I got home. This crack was one of a few noticeable ones on the clear portion, right by the line-leader loop. Looking at how it was cracked, it appeared to be caused by structural issues and not a foreign source. I haven't stretched the line either. It'll fish again, just with a few more knots to slide through the guides.

Great report!
Never caught a Dolly in the salt but have fished the North Sound only a handful of times, they look like lots of fun! I catch them all the time in the river but can imagine they tug well when they're praying in the salt! Congrats on some beauties
