Theres a companion video to the one linked above. Here is the guide with several of his close friends from a 4 state radius racing to the first hole.

Rest assured, each boat is locked and loaded with multiple Gopros, 82 dead ducks worth of down and enough beads to open up a bead and crystal shop.

I have always appreciated Todd's work. Anybody else notice the flash of the fish taking the fly at the 10:17 mark? Very cool. It takes a lot of patience by Jack to not set the hook sooner or harder after a solid grab. I agree that on the swing you let them take the fly and turn but I generally go a little harder and a little sooner on my hook sets. I have had pretty good luck landing fish on the swung fly by hitting them pretty hard on the third rod pump. Often the hook set is academic but not always. With wild fish in the spring with some color to the water like in this video, there is no reason you can't go with 15 pound Maxima and put some pressure on them.
So was most of this filmed on the stretch of the Wynoochee that was once public and is now essentially privatized to the great benefit of a few guide outfits, one of which happens to be owned by the individual in this film?

I didn't think it was the Nooch but heck, I only fished the Nooch one time ever and that was a couple weeks ago. Talked to 4 different groups including 3 gear guides. Nobody even saw a fish. Such is winter steelheading during clear and cold conditions. I had another river in mind when watching this video. But I've been wrong before and will be again.
So you won't go anymore because its being over fished but you will pimp a video about it? Kinda hypocritical eh?

Good video. Jack is a solid dude(even if he is the target of a reform thread here).

Totally agree on the heavy tip/light fly.

Glad they showed how little control we have over grab-land rate and that Jack says it like it is. Be happy you got a fish to grab.

Absolutely.

Still a cool video though.

"Why?" is what I ask too? serves no use to whore out the source even more. People make these videos to impress who?? Ah, for a buck for a sponsor. So good for the soul..and fish.

Wyn...oo..ch.is not that pretty, river(s) on video more north. I have a pretty good guess where a majority was shot but I will keep it tucked in : )
10:10 That bow when a fish spits your hook while under tension.

I know it well. It's your insides cramping up due to the rush of adrenaline after the hookup and now it has nowhere to go.

It's either that or the arms held wide , head up, big ass yell to the fishing gods, asking why?

WHHHHYYYYY?

Moen's videos are awesome. I don't care whether they're somehow bad for the resource; they do infinitely less damage than the current management policies. Besides... the quality of the filiming and editing is veritable art. The closeups on the fish are stunning.
It was a Todd Moen video that inspired me to buy a spey rod and get back into fly fishing after a long hiatus.
I watched this video number of times while trapped at my desk. Note sure if it relieves the itch or makes me want to fish more. Probably both.

I thought us old guys caught all the fish out of those rivers in the 60s and 70s. I know that I caught my share and then some.:D
Nice vid.
Thanks for the memory of why I didn't land more steel.
Run right at ya then turn and break ya off
The intro alone was pretty spectacular.

Does anyone know anything about the sound track to this video?
Thanks Swimmy. That's going to get me through another day of Nursing school.

I'm doing 3 weeks in Smithers, baller status, when I graduate.
