I live up in Alaska but will be visiting the in-laws from December 30th to the 10th of January and will be desperate for some solitude while there. We will be based out of Portland so I was thinking the Clackamas or the Sandy, but will there be any fish running? Or would it be worth going to the coastal streams? I'm not necessarily looking for specific spots, but what rivers might be worth swinging some flies and maybe what gear to bring.

Thanks,
Matt

The Bulk of the Sandy and Clack run will be a bit later, may still be worth a shot though. I'll be on the Nehalem, Wilson, and Nestucca around that time.
A bit early there as well, but less so.
Are you talking Steelhead or Coho? I was originally looking into floating the Wilson so that's good news.

Thanks

Sounds like going to the coast is the way to go. I think I have access to a drift boat so that may help with the crowds. If not, I am well versed in combat fishing. The Kenai during salmon season is a joke.
