Been trying to get clarification on this one... maybe someone out there knows the facts. Does the Vehicle Use Permit exempt one from having to pay the $5 State Park Use Fee that is now posted at most WDFW sites such as Leech Lake???? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on any website...

You still have to pay the parking fee, your wdfw parking pass doesnt cover state parks. Has been that way at Leech for as long as I can remember. It is not a wdfw access site it is a state park site or forest service site .

Leech Lake is NOT a Washington state park. It is part of Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The $5 parking fee goes to the federal forest. You can purchase a federal pass for a year that allows access to all National Forest and National Park sites (Hoh, Elwha, Rainier, etc.) for $80 per year.

Here is your definitive answer. No.

Vehicle Use Permit is only valid on Department of Fish and Wildlife lands.

State Park Use Fee is only valid at State Parks. Mostly sort of.....see link below.

Leech Lake is National Forest. You need a Northwest Forest Pass, or one of the discount passes such as the Access, Senior, or annual pass

Click on this link to see what you need to buy: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/question-which-pass.shtml

Notice that for an extra $20 you get a limited list of Washington state parks where you get to use the pass.

Click on the link. Go through the decision tree. Then go look at the list of Washington and Oregon state parks to see if it is worth upgrading to the $100 pass.

If you are disabled or 62 get one of the federal discount passes. Deal with the rest later.

Yeah that's the nearest to us. What ice cream cones?!!!!! Dang! I missed out again in my life! They have some cool "Smokey the Bear" patches that you can purchase there at the Ranger Station. I think your girls would love one. Cute little gift sometime.

Cross the HCB on 104 to the "exit" for Quilcene/Brinnon. Exit to the right and it curves around. Right at the stop sign. Stay straight, this enters Quilcene as Center Road I belive. When you get to the Angled T shaped intersection in Quilcene where 101 passes through the hood of your car is practically pointed right at the place. Sign says "Biggest Ice Cream Cones" or something like that. It is across from the Quilcene school. Enjoy. Fat kid is pretty up on the ice cream shops, donut shops and such...I like to eat.

I was able to get that lifetime pass also. It is pretty sweat. Mine was free, it was the disabled veterans pass, but it has the same stuff. Also, I would check on a State Park lifetime pass, it is free to camp at any state park or use their facilities. I was able to get a disabled Vet pass there also, if you rank 30% or higher you qualify.

Just a heads up to some of the fellows who might qualify, but are not aware of it.

Wait, If you get old to soon you really won't like it. I sure don't. I got my Senior Pass at the station on Black Lake Road in Olympia.

Trent- I checked on line regarding State Parks and didn't find a discount. Did I miss something? I'm a Vietnam Vet but came back without a "scratch", so no bennies there (but that's ok with me). Speaking of bennies, I think Washington State should give all Veterans "free" fishing licenses! We should start a movement! Hell, you are not considered a "senior" until your 70 or something regarding fishing licenses in this state. They suck!

I got up my free lifetime pass last summer as a disabled Vet. Having been a climber and paying entrance and parking fees for>15 years I was positively giddy when I finally drove up to the gate at MRNP for a snow play overnighter and the Ranger looked at the card, wished me a good day and waved me through. My disability is being re-evaluated and if I reach 30% now, I'll get a state pass.

Ha. Ha. I have to laugh Brian. My friend and I picked up our passes together. He also turned 62. We were giddy as well! We felt like little kids that just stole some candy! Just a couple of old farts now. Ha.
